Program Director

Denali Family Medicine Residency Program

About the Opportunity

Sunshine Community Health Center (SCHC) is recruiting an experienced family physician educator to build and lead the Denali Family Medicine Residency Program, which will train physicians for successful practice in rural Alaska. SCHC has submitted its ACGME Sponsoring Institution accreditation application. The Program Director will help move the program from development through launch by shaping the curriculum, building the faculty team, planning clinical training sites, creating a strong learning culture, and participating in the successful accreditation of the program.

Salary range

Anticipated salary of $250,000–$280,000 for the full-time position. Development-phase compensation will be defined in the employment offer.

Approximately 60% leadership and administration, 20% direct patient care, and 20% resident teaching and precepting

Work pattern

Remote work may be available when compatible with program milestones. Weekly travel to SCHC and partner sites is expected.

Primarily on site across SCHC and affiliated training locations, with travel based on program needs

Key Responsibilities

Lead residency development and the ACGME family medicine program application following Sponsoring Institution approval, then maintain accreditation and program quality.
Develop the competency-based curriculum, evaluation system, and rural clinical training experiences.
Recruit, support, and evaluate faculty; lead resident recruitment, education, supervision, and assessment.
Establish clinical training partnerships with hospitals, community physicians, and participating sites.
Maintain an active, broad-scope family medicine practice, including outpatient, inpatient, obstetric, pediatric, call, and resident-precepting responsibilities, subject to credentialing and approved schedules.
Build a respectful, collaborative learning environment connected to the needs of rural Alaska communities.

Required Qualifications

MD or DO; completion of an accredited family medicine residency; and current ABFM or AOBFP certification.
At least three years of educational or administrative experience, or qualifications acceptable to the ACGME Review Committee for Family Medicine, with demonstrated graduate medical education leadership and teaching experience.
Active family medicine practice; eligibility for SCHC credentialing, an unrestricted Alaska medical license, and DEA registration.
BLS and ACLS certification by the employment start date and eligibility for an appropriate academic appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience as a Program Director, Assistant Program Director, core faculty member, site director, or in a comparable graduate medical education leadership role, including new-program development or accreditation.
Rural, frontier, FQHC, teaching health center, or underserved practice or teaching experience. Alaska experience and culturally responsive care are valued.
Broad-scope family medicine experience, including inpatient care, obstetrics, pediatrics, and call responsibilities.
