Job Overview
While upholding Delta Mckenzie Policies and Mission and Values Statements, the Maintenance Engineer is responsible for machine maintenance activities, including troubleshooting and repair. In addition, aligning and setting up new equipment along with programming of PLC's, working with ladder logic and machinery electronics. May include the training of production on new and existing startup production lines.
I – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintains and repairs production equipment and machinery:
- Troubleshoots problems when machines malfunction.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment, with minimal downtime.
- Responsible for maintaining and executing a preventive maintenance program, with the help of maintenance utility personnel.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
- Assemble, install or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, help desks, and parts catalogs as necessary.
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
- Plan and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams.
- Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
- Perform routine janitorial and housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, safe, and professional facility environment.
Assists in department layouts:
- As process improvements are implemented, helps determine proper layout to maximize current resources and capabilities.
· If needed, installs power, air and water.
Maintains parts inventory for maintenance department: Order parts, supplies, and equipment to maintain adequate in-house inventories.
Additional Responsibilities:
Responsible for general equipment and facility maintenance and upkeep, including snow/ice removal by doors and walkways.
Works all scheduled hours up to seven days a week including overtime; maintains good attendance; and adheres to all safety policies, procedures and rules.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
II – JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
This position requires:
· Strong organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
· Strong ability to self-direct and manage.
· Knowledge of electrical (including ability to design and build electrical panels), plumbing, natural gas, water and drainage systems.
· An understanding of electrical schematics, blue prints, and ladder logic.
· Must have a mechanical aptitude.
· Basic math skills.
· Knowledge of Excel spreadsheets.
· Requires a valid driver’s license
Training and Education:

Note: Management reserves the right to require specific training for this position. However, depending upon the type and the quality of prior work experience, some exchanges can be made between training and experience.
III – QUALITY AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Decision Making and Problem Solving:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for decision-making related to prioritization of projects and work assignments to resolve problems in a timely and cost-effective manner, without interruption to production. Good problem solving skills are necessary because the cause for machine malfunction is not always evident. Must be able to determine when the problem is beyond the scope of individual’s ability in order to source outside help.
Interaction with Others:
This position requires interacting with all levels of employees, ranging from the president to engineering, to operators on the production floor. In addition, the Maintenance Technician interacts with outside vendors.
Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities:
There are no direct reports to this position.
iV - Working Environment:
Physical environment – The time spent in the production area involves working with potentially hazardous manufacturing operations, equipment, machine tools, hand tools, dust and varying noise levels. In addition, safety hazards exist from working with electricity, metal shavings, and chemicals. Must be able to climb ladders and work at extremely high levels. The time spent outdoors may involve a cold climate or other extreme temperatures.
Mental pressure – Constant concentration to solve logic problems coupled with frequent interruptions and noise make a difficult working environment. Machine breakdowns must be fixed as quickly as possible so as not to interrupt production. This can create a stressful environment.
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
