Do you want to become the electrician everyone calls when they're stuck?
Or maybe you already are.
Cannon Electric is looking for the right electrician to join our team in Watertown.
We're open to everyone from an exceptional person looking to enter the trade to experienced apprentices and journeyman electricians.
Experienced electricians can earn $40+/hour, with pay based on experience, ability, and licensing.
- Local work — home every night
- Paid travel time both ways
- No mandatory weekends
- PTO and holiday pay
- 3% retirement match
- Health insurance options available through our insurance partner
- Uniforms and boot allowance
- Variety of residential service and small commercial work
But we're not just looking for years of experience.
We're looking for a certain kind of person.
When someone says:
"Nobody has been able to figure this out."
Your first thought is:
"Let me take a look."
Maybe your brain sounds like this:
"That doesn't seem right."
"Why does that work that way?"
"I bet that's going to cause a problem later."
"There has to be a better way."
"If we do this now, it'll save us time later."
You don't just want to know how something works.
You want to understand why.
You notice things other people miss.
You think ahead.
When you don't know something, you want to figure it out.
And you don't need someone standing over you telling you every next step.
If You're Newer to the Trade
We're not expecting you to know everything.
We're interested in the person who learns unusually quickly, asks good questions, understands how things work, and genuinely wants to become exceptional at the trade.
Maybe you've always been the person who:
- Became the family's unofficial IT department.
- Took things apart just to see how they worked.
- Learned welding, mechanics, woodworking, CAD, programming, 3D printing, or another skill simply because it interested you.
- Watches videos or reads about something until you understand how to fix it yourself.
- Gets handed something when everyone else says, "We can't figure this out."
We'll teach you electrical.
We'll teach you troubleshooting.
We'll teach you code.
But you have to bring the curiosity, effort, and drive to learn.
If You're Already an Experienced Electrician
We're looking for someone who wants to be trusted, not micromanaged.
Someone who can troubleshoot.
Someone who sees potential problems before they become expensive problems.
Someone who takes ownership of the job instead of waiting to be told every next step.
Someone who would rather fix the cause than keep fixing the symptom.
And someone who takes pride in leaving a customer's home or business better than they found it.
Our Standards Are High
This isn't the right fit for everyone — and that's okay.
We're a service company. Our electricians work in customers' homes and businesses, often without direct supervision.
Customers need to trust the person we send through their front door.
That means we expect you to:
- Show up clean, presentable, and professional.
- Communicate clearly with customers and coworkers so questions, instructions, problems, and safety information are understood.
- Treat customers and their property with respect.
- Work with the same urgency and quality when nobody is watching as you do when someone is standing beside you.
- Tell us when you make a mistake or damage something.
We can fix mistakes. We can't work around dishonesty.
We also expect you to:
- Admit when you don't know something instead of pretending you do.
- Take responsibility instead of making excuses.
- Clean up after yourself.
- Notice what needs to happen next instead of waiting to be told.
- Care about details even when the customer would never know the difference.
- Do the job right even when doing it wrong would be easier.
We're Not Trying to Hire Everyone
We're intentionally selective about who joins our team.
If you're looking for a place where you can disappear into the crew, do the minimum, cut corners, or only work hard when someone is watching, this probably isn't the right company for you.
We're looking for people who have a history of excelling at the things they choose to pursue.
You should be able to point to something you've become exceptionally good at.
It doesn't have to be electrical.
Maybe it's another trade, mechanics, technology, farming, woodworking, a sport, a hobby, or something completely different.
We're interested in people who have shown that they can learn, improve, and excel — not just people who tell us they're hard workers.
The Work
We primarily do residential service, troubleshooting, remodels, and small commercial work around the Watertown area.
That means variety.
You're not spending six months installing the same thing over and over.
One day might involve troubleshooting something nobody else has figured out. The next could be a service upgrade, remodel, lighting project, or commercial service call.
Our Hiring Process Is More Involved Than Most
We don't believe a 30-minute interview tells us enough about someone.
Depending on the position, our hiring process may include multiple conversations, problem-solving or aptitude assessments, and possibly a paid working interview.
We're willing to invest more time upfront because we're looking for people we hope will be here for years — not simply someone who can start Monday.
What Matters Most
Experience matters.
Tech school matters.
Licensing matters.
But none of those automatically make someone a great electrician.
What we're ultimately looking for is someone who:
Learns. Thinks. Notices. Takes ownership. Tells the truth. Cares about doing it right.
If you have 1–2 years of experience plus tech school, great.
If you're further along in your apprenticeship, we'd like to talk.
If you're already a journeyman looking for a better opportunity, we'd like to talk.
And if you have no electrical experience but read this entire posting thinking,
"That's exactly how my brain works..."
Apply anyway.
We'd rather hire the right person and help them grow than hire the wrong person just because they have more years in the trade.
