The Staff Hardware Design Engineer is a hands-on engineer role responsible for designing and developing complex printed circuit boards (PCBs) that power DDI's embedded control systems.
This position takes ownership of PCB design from schematic implementation through manufacturing release, partnering closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Firmware, Test, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance hardware. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in multilayer PCB design, signal integrity, manufacturability, and product development, and enjoys solving challenging hardware design problems throughout the product lifecycle.

Design and develop complex multilayer PCBs for analog, digital, mixed-signal, high-speed, and power electronics applications

Translate electrical schematics into optimized PCB layouts with careful consideration for signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal performance, and manufacturability

Define PCB stack-ups, controlled impedance requirements, materials, and fabrication specifications in collaboration with Electrical Engineering and fabrication partners

Create complete manufacturing release packages, including Gerber/ODB++, fabrication drawings, assembly documentation, and engineering release files

Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout the design process

Own and maintain PCB libraries, component symbols, footprints, and design standards within Altium Designer

Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering to optimize board placement, enclosure integration, connector locations, and thermal performance

Support prototype builds, board bring-up, debugging, failure analysis, and root cause investigations

Partner with PCB fabricators, assembly houses, and contract manufacturers to resolve design and production issues

Drive continuous improvement of PCB design standards, tools, documentation, and engineering processes

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field

8+ years of experience designing complex multilayer PCBs for commercial or industrial electronic products

Advanced proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent PCB design software

Strong experience with analog, digital, mixed-signal, high-speed, and power PCB design

Solid understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, PCB stack-ups, and DFM/DFA principles

Experience creating manufacturing release packages, including Gerber/ODB++, fabrication, and assembly documentation

Experience supporting prototype builds, board bring-up, debugging, and manufacturing readiness

Ability to collaborate effectively with Electrical, Mechanical, Firmware, Test, and Manufacturing Engineering teams, as well as external fabrication and assembly partners

Strong troubleshooting, communication, and technical documentation skills

Experience with semiconductor equipment, industrial automation, or other high-reliability electronic systems is a plus
