Planner II
The Planner II is an experienced production planning professional responsible for independently planning, scheduling, and coordinating manufacturing operations to meet customer delivery commitments while optimizing machine capacity, labor utilization, and material availability.
The Planner II manages moderate to complex production schedules across CNC machining, plastic fabrication, thermoforming, and assembly operations. This role serves as the primary liaison between Production, Program Management, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, and Shipping to ensure efficient workflow and timely customer deliveries.
In a 65-person manufacturing environment, the Planner II is expected to make day-to-day planning decisions with minimal supervision while proactively identifying and resolving scheduling conflicts.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and long-range production schedules.
- Schedule work across CNC machining, thermoforming, plastics fabrication, finishing, and assembly operations.
- Balance customer priorities with machine capacity, labor availability, and material constraints.
- Reprioritize schedules to accommodate engineering changes, customer requests, equipment downtime, and production disruptions.
Production Control
- Release and monitor manufacturing work orders through the ERP/MRP system.
- Track work-in-process (WIP) to identify bottlenecks and delays.
- Coordinate schedule adjustments with production supervisors.
- Ensure routings, bills of material (BOMs), and production documentation are complete and accurate.
Material Planning
- Coordinate with Purchasing and the Supply Chain Manager to ensure timely material availability.
- Monitor shortages and communicate risks that may impact production schedules.
- Recommend schedule adjustments based on material availability.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with:
- Program Managers
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Production Supervisors
- Purchasing
- Shipping & Receiving
- Quality Assurance
to ensure production schedules support customer commitments and operational efficiency.
ERP/MRP System Management
- Maintain accurate planning and scheduling data within the ERP/MRP system.
- Monitor work order status and update schedules as production progresses.
- Generate reports on backlog, capacity, WIP, and schedule performance.
- Verify planning data accuracy to support informed decision-making.
Customer & Program Support
- Provide schedule updates to Program Coordinators.
- Support production planning for new product introductions (NPI).
- Assist in evaluating the impact of customer schedule changes.
- Participate in production meetings to communicate priorities and delivery commitments.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve planning processes and workflow.
- Recommend strategies to reduce lead times and improve throughput.
- Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Participate in process improvement and scheduling optimization projects.

Experience/Knowledge Requirements
· 3–5 years of production planning, scheduling, or manufacturing operations experience.
· Experience in a CNC machining, fabrication, plastics, or assembly environment preferred.
· Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
· ERP/MRP software (JobBOSS², Epicor, Global Shop, E2, SAP, or similar)
· Intermediate Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, filtering, reporting)
· Production scheduling and capacity planning
· Strong analytical and organizational skills
Planner III
The Planner III is the senior-level production planning professional responsible for leading production planning activities, optimizing manufacturing schedules, and coordinating complex customer programs across CNC machining, plastic fabrication, thermoforming, and assembly operations. This role serves as the planning subject matter expert and provides guidance to Planner I and Planner II personnel.
The Planner III partners with Program Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Purchasing, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure customer commitments are achieved while maximizing manufacturing efficiency, capacity utilization, and inventory performance.
This position is expected to make strategic planning decisions with minimal supervision and is often considered the second-in-command to the Supply Chain or Production Control Manager.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
Production Planning Leadership
- Develop and oversee master production schedules across all manufacturing departments.
- Balance customer priorities, machine capacity, labor resources, and material availability.
- Lead planning efforts for high-value and complex customer programs.
- Coordinate production schedules for CNC machining, thermoforming, plastic fabrication, and assembly operations.
Capacity Planning
- Analyze machine and labor capacity.
- Recommend production priorities and schedule adjustments.
- Identify bottlenecks and develop recovery plans.
- Support long-range production planning and forecasting.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Serve as the primary planning liaison with:

Production Control
- Monitor work order progress throughout manufacturing.
- Ensure accurate routing, BOMs, and scheduling information.
- Coordinate schedule changes with Production Supervisors and Program Managers.
- Improve work-in-process (WIP) flow and manufacturing efficiency.
ERP/MRP System Management
- Maintain planning parameters within the ERP/MRP system.
- Analyze production reports and planning metrics.
- Improve ERP planning accuracy.
- Develop planning reports and dashboards for management.
Customer Program Support
- Support strategic customer programs.
- Evaluate schedule impacts resulting from engineering changes and customer demand fluctuations.
- Provide planning input during new product introduction (NPI).
- Coordinate recovery plans for critical customer deliveries.
Leadership & Mentoring
- Mentor Planner I and Planner II team members.
- Train staff on planning procedures and ERP best practices.
- Assist the Supply Chain Manager in developing planning standards.
- Participate in cross-functional process improvement initiatives.

Experience/Knowledge Requirements
· 5–8 years of production planning or manufacturing scheduling experience.
· Experience in CNC machining, plastics fabrication, thermoforming, or assembly manufacturing.
· Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex production schedules.
· ERP/MRP software (JobBOSS², Epicor, E2, Global Shop, SAP, or equivalent)
· Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
· Capacity planning and scheduling
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Pay: $40.85 - $57.70 per hour
