Achievement House Cyber Charter School is seeking a passionate Reading Specialist to help champion our student's literacy advancement. This role will create lasting academic achievements for students across our school community by using the Science of Reading, providing expert reading supports, best practices to educators.
Responsibilities
Literacy & Data Analysis

Analyze literacy assessment data, universal screening results, progress monitoring data, and state assessment outcomes to identify student needs, monitor growth, and provide informed instructional decision-making.

Collaborate with Administration, teachers, school counselors, and intervention teams to develop and implement targeted literacy improvement plans.
- Monitor student progress using available data dashboards, assessment results, and other student performance data to identify students at risk and recommend appropriate instructional interventions and support services.
- Support the implementation of the school’s MTSS framework, if adopted, by participating in problem-solving meetings, reviewing student data, and providing targeted literacy interventions and instructional recommendations.
- Utilize data to evaluate the effectiveness of literacy interventions and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
Reading Intervention & Student Support

Provide individualized and small-group evidence-based reading instruction and intervention aligned to student needs in foundational reading skills, fluency, vocabulary, language comprehension, and reading language comprehension.
- Develop, implement, and monitor intervention plans for students experiencing reading difficulties or demonstrating below-grade-level literacy performance.
- Teach assigned reading intervention courses while differentiating instruction based on assessment data, student learning profiles, and individualized goals.
- Progress monitor students receiving intervention services and regularly communicate outcomes and recommendations to teachers, families, and administrators.
- Provide instructional support and intervention services to students identified as at risk in reading.
Instructional Coaching & Teacher Collaboration

Partner with teachers to analyze student work, review assessment data, and identify effective instructional strategies to improve literacy achievement.
- Model evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention practices through coaching, demonstration lessons, and collaborative planning.
- In collaboration with the Curriculum Coordinator, support teachers in implementing research-based reading practices aligned with PA Academic Standards and school curriculum expectations.
- Reflect with teachers on instructional effectiveness and support continuous improvement efforts to maximize student achievement.
Family Engagement

Establish and maintain positive partnerships with students and families to support literacy development and academic success.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, intervention plans, achievements, and strategies that can be implemented at home to strengthen reading skills.
- Conduct outreach to students and families when academic concerns, attendance concerns, or lack of assignment completion may impact literacy growth.
- Provide families with resources and tools to support reading development.
Special Education & Student Services Collaboration

Participate in IEP, GIEP, and other appropriate meetings to support student achievement.
- Collaborate with appropriate staff to support the students’ literacy goals and academic achievement.
- Assist in the development and implementation of literacy-related accommodations, modifications, and intervention recommendations.
Schoolwide Literacy Initiatives

Provide support with schoolwide literacy initiatives to improve achievement across grade levels.
- Evaluate and provide recommendations of literacy instructional resources, intervention programs, and assessment tools.
- Stay current on literacy research, best practices, and virtual learning strategies to support continuous program improvement.
Responsibilities for all positions

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or related field.
- Experience teaching in cyber education environment is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with students, parents/guardians, staff, and other stakeholders.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and educational tools to personalize instruction and support student learning.
- A proven track record in the use of instructional methods, the ability to build professional relationships, and plan collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze student data, implement evidence-based literacy interventions, collaborate with instructional teams, solve problems, and build positive professional relationships that support student achievement.
- Positive and encouraging outlook focused on student achievement.
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid environment.
Certifications/Clearances
- Level I or Level II PA Secondary (grades 7-12) Reading Specialist Certificate required.
- Additional PA Secondary (grades 7-12) content area certificate(s) a plus.
