Alternative Care Services (ACS) is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and motivated Behavioral Health Program Supervisor to lead our 15-bed crisis residential program in south Fargo.
This is an opportunity for a behavioral health professional who enjoys combining client-centered care, staff leadership, crisis intervention, community collaboration, and program operations while making a direct impact on individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis.

About Alternative Care Services
ACS is a community-based residential treatment program serving individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use concerns who need additional support, monitoring, and stabilization outside of a hospital setting.
Our voluntary, 15-bed program provides 24/7 safety monitoring, crisis intervention, withdrawal management support, and recovery-based residential services to individuals receiving treatment through the regional human service center.
The ACS team works from a recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma-informed approach, recognizing each individual’s strengths, needs, experiences, goals, and stage of recovery.
Services within the program may include:
- 24/7 safety monitoring and observation
- Ongoing assessment for changes in mental health, behavior, or level of risk
- Verbal and emotional support during periods of crisis or instability
- Crisis intervention, de-escalation, and emergency response when necessary
- Withdrawal management monitoring and supportive services for individuals experiencing substance-related withdrawal
- Monitoring for changes in withdrawal symptoms and coordination with nursing and medical providers when additional intervention is needed
- Recovery-oriented support focused on coping skills, stabilization, motivation, and movement toward individualized recovery goals
- Implementation of individualized treatment recommendations and care plans
- Trauma-informed engagement and support
- Coordination with case managers, nurses, treatment providers, hospitals, emergency services, and other community resources
- Support with successful transitions to the next appropriate level of care
What You'll Do
As the ACS Program Supervisor, you will provide leadership for both client care and the staff team, while overseeing the overall day-to-day operation of the facility.
A unique part of this position is the opportunity to work alongside a wide variety of behavioral health and community providers. You will regularly collaborate with case managers, nurses, mental health professionals, substance use treatment providers, hospitals, emergency services, community programs, and other agencies to coordinate care and help individuals successfully navigate their next steps.
Responsibilities include:
- Oversee the ACS program, including client care, staffing, facility operations, safety practices, and daily program needs.
- Ensure consistent implementation of safety monitoring, crisis stabilization, recovery-based services, and withdrawal management practices within the program.
- Collaborate with the local human service center in the development of individualized treatment plans and oversee implementation of those plans within the residential setting.
- Ensure services are delivered using person-centered, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed practices.
- Monitor client progress and ensure timely communication with case management and other members of the treatment team.
- Provide crisis intervention and coordinate transfers to different levels of care when an individual’s needs exceed what can safely be supported within the program.
- Oversee appropriate monitoring and response for individuals experiencing substance withdrawal, including coordination with nursing and medical providers.
- Provide leadership, supervision, training, and ongoing support to paraprofessional and nursing staff.
- Oversee staff hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary processes, and other supervisory responsibilities.
- Coordinate, collaborate, and communicate with outside providers regarding client care, treatment, resources, and supportive services.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community partners involved in behavioral health, substance use treatment, crisis response, and recovery services.

Schedule
This is primarily a Monday–Friday, daytime position.
Because ACS operates 24 hours a day, the Program Supervisor must also have the flexibility to provide support outside of typical daytime hours when significant situations or staffing needs arise.
The position also participates in a rotating on-call schedule, providing after-hours consultation and support as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services-related field and previous supervisory/leadership experience.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in the mental health field.
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
- Acceptable driving record.
