The City of Westbrook is seeking a dedicated Fields Technician to help maintain our athletic fields, parks, recreational facilities, and municipal grounds that serve thousands of residents, students, and visitors each year.
As a Fields Technician, you'll play a key role in ensuring our outdoor spaces are safe, functional, and game-ready year-round. From preparing athletic fields and maintaining parks to supporting community events and winter snow operations, no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain athletic fields, parks, dog parks, community gardens, parking lots, and other outdoor recreational facilities.
- Perform mowing, trimming, field lining, aeration, overseeding, fertilization, landscaping, and irrigation maintenance.
- Prepare athletic fields for practices, games, tournaments, and special events.
- Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, skid steers, paint machines, chainsaws, trimmers, and snow removal equipment.
- Assist with irrigation system repairs, preventative maintenance, and facility inspections.
- Support snow and ice removal operations during the winter months.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
- Work collaboratively with coworkers, coaches, school personnel, contractors, and members of the public to provide exceptional service.
Education and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in athletic field maintenance, landscaping, parks maintenance, grounds maintenance, construction, agriculture, forestry, public works, or a related field.
- Experience operating commercial landscaping, grounds maintenance, agricultural, or construction equipment is preferred.
- A valid Maine driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to teamwork and customer service.
- The ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the knowledge and ability to perform the work will be considered.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary range of $20.07 - $29.47 per hour depending on relevant experience and qualifications. Salary rates may be subject to increase upon ratification of the new collective bargaining agreement effective July 1, 2026.
- This position is covered by the General Unit collective bargaining agreement.

The City of Westbrook was a traditional mill city that has grown and diversified significantly over the last two decades to become a residential hub and business center for the region. Westbrook has a population of over 20,000 and covers 17.36 square miles. Westbrook is centrally located to both urban and rural amenities. Currently, the City employs approximately 195 full-time and 80 variable-hour employees, covered by five different Collective Bargaining Agreements. The departments contained within the City are the Mayor’s Office, Economic Development, City Clerk, Finance, Human Resources, Planning, Code Enforcement, & Assessing, Public Services, Community Services, General Assistance, Library, Police, Fire & Rescue, and Dispatch.
The Community Services Department oversees recreational opportunities within Westbrook, including the Westbrook Community Center, the Cornelia Warren Sports Courts, the Fraser Field Recreational Complex, and a variety of outdoor parks and open spaces. This department organizes and offers programs for all ages, such as youth sports leagues, senior activities, fitness classes, and cultural events. Community Services also provides facilities for public use, including meeting spaces and venues for events. The department works to promote community engagement and provides residents with opportunities for recreation, health, and wellness. It is staffed by 11 full-time employees and numerous part-time employees.
