We are seeking a Chemical Engineering Intern with a passion for critical minerals and industrial decarbonization to join our team.

Carbon To Stone (CTS) is a deep-tech startup recovering critical minerals and capturing CO₂ from industrial materials. Our electrochemical and mineralization technology platforms transform ores, slag, and industrial residues into valuable metals and mineral products. We are deploying pilot projects with large industrial partners and building toward commercial scale. Our team brings together world-leading expertise across materials science, electrochemistry, and process engineering. Come join us.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Chemical Engineering Intern to join our team and contribute to the scale-up of our metal recovery and mineralization platforms. You will play a critical role in advancing experimental and process design work across our electrochemical metal recovery and CO₂ mineralization platforms, helping develop economical and scalable solutions for critical minerals production and industrial decarbonization.

Essential Job Functions:

Conduct materials testing under simulated experimental conditions to assess performance and efficiency of process designs.
Assist in running experiments and developing detailed mass and energy balance models, maintaining process flow diagrams, and techno-economic models.
Execute initiatives to optimize process parameters and minimize environmental impact of the technology.
Collaborate with R&D and Commercial teams to explore innovative approaches for process design and scale-up.
Contribute to the development and review of laboratory test plans for mineralization and resource recovery.
Operate equipment and support the design of commercial processes and equipment with a focus on safety.
Use characterization techniques (e.g., SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), XRD (X-ray Diffraction), XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy), Ion Chromatography (IC), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Spectroscopy to analyze materials properties and separation efficiencies.
Prepare comprehensive technical reports and documentation to communicate findings and progress effectively.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree (or pursuing) in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
Demonstrated strong aptitude for researching and solving technical problems related to chemical or materials industry

Education and Experience Preferred:

Master’s degree (or pursuing) in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
1+ years of experience working on chemical process design and laboratory experiments in the chemical or materials industry

Additional Skills and Abilities:

Must adhere to safety protocols and practices to maintain a safe work environment.
Must be willing to work in the lab and handle materials and equipment.
Must be willing to lift upto 50 lbs to execute assigned work.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to demonstrate strong organizational skills, ability to multitask, and meticulous attention to detail.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software to complete analyses and present insights.
Must be able to work independently and effectively collaborate with team members, resolve conflicts, and maintain morale.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment, showing flexibility and pragmatism.
Must be able to demonstrate high ethical standards and personal integrity.
