Full Job Description

Job Title: Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant – Orthopedic Surgery & Clinical Care

Location: Mayfield Heights, OH Position Type: Part Time (3 days per week) Practice Setting: Private Practice & Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)

About the Practice: We are a premier, single-location orthopedic private practice based in Mayfield Heights, OH, specializing in both surgical and non-surgical care of the shoulder, spine, hip, and knee. We operate out of a state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and pride ourselves on delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care. We are looking for a dedicated and clinically strong Physician Assistant to join our team.

Note: No prior orthopedics experience is required for this role. We are willing to train the right candidate who possesses a solid clinical foundation, basic operative skills, and a great attitude.

Key Responsibilities

This is a highly dynamic role split between the clinic and the operating room. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Schedule: Wednesday-Friday every week, with an additional half day per week in 1st and 4th quarters

Call Schedule: Returns to sharing rotating weeks with partner NP, including rotating holidays to ensure both have a holiday off

Friday Clinical Call: Returns to handling clinical calls for additional Physicians onsite.

Clinical & Office Duties:

Evaluate and manage a diverse mix of patients, including new consultations and surgical follow-ups.
Administer therapeutic joint and soft tissue injections.
Conduct comprehensive Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) encounters.
Educate patients and their families on upcoming surgical procedures, expected outcomes, and post-operative care plans.
Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records for all patient encounters.

Surgical Duties:

Act as the first assistant to the attending orthopedic surgeon during a variety of procedures (shoulder, spine, hip, and knee).
Scrub into surgical cases, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and ensuring smooth operative workflows.
Perform basic operative techniques, including proficient and meticulous wound closure.

Call Coverage:

No physical hospital call or rounding. * Responsible for sharing after-hours phone triage with one other PA/NP, requiring coverage only every other week.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience: No previous orthopedics experience is necessary. However, prior exposure to the Operating Room (OR) is required.
Technical Skills: Must possess basic operative techniques, a firm grasp of sterile fields, and proficient wound closure skills.
Clinical Knowledge: Strong overall general clinical knowledge and assessment skills.
Interpersonal Skills: Superb bedside manner with an empathetic approach to patient care.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively educate patients and collaborate with the surgical team.
Work Ethic: Highly reliable, prompt, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced clinical and surgical environment.
Licensure: Active (or pending) Physician Assistant license in the state of Ohio and current board certification.
