Join the City of Westminster’s Utilities team as a Meter Reader—a junior mid-level opportunity with excellent benefits, strong career advancement potential, and a supportive team environment.

This is an essential position, meaning:

You must report to work during emergencies or inclement weather
Extended shifts and overtime are likely during these events
This provides valuable overtime pay opportunities while supporting your community when it matters most

Responsibilities:

Assist with utility operations (water main breaks, sewer issues, flushing, etc.)
Communicate with residents, property owners, and contractors
Support billing accuracy and field investigations (e.g., high water usage)
Maintain records and assist with inventory and reporting

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
At least 1 year of Meter Reader experience such as:

Read water meters and record data using handheld devices.

Identify and report irregular usage or system issues.

Install, inspect, maintain, and replace water meters.

Basic math, reading, and communication skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team

Licenses & Certifications (or ability to obtain)

Valid Class A Restricted CDL (with tank & air brake endorsements within 6 months)
Water Distribution & Wastewater Collection certifications
Confined Space & Flagger certifications
First Aid, CPR & AED certification

Work Environment:

Spend up to 95% of your day walking outdoors
Work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)
Lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically active tasks
Use safety equipment in compliance with regulations

Pay & Benefits

$21.1100 - $22.5000 per hour (DOE)
