Full Job Description

Food manufacturer in the PA-WV-OH area is seeking a Safety Director over their network of facilities. This person will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs across their operations. This role is responsible for establishing a unified safety culture, ensuring strict compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA), and implementing standardized best practices to minimize workplace incidents and hazards.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive EHS strategy that aligns with corporate goals and fosters a proactive "zero-incident" safety culture across all three sites.
Standardization: Standardize safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training programs across all manufacturing sites to ensure operational consistency.
Collaboration: Partner closely with Plant Managers and local safety coordinators to integrate safety initiatives seamlessly into daily production operations.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all facilities comply with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and local regulatory requirements, including the management of air/water permits and waste programs.
Audits & Inspections: Lead regular, comprehensive safety audits and risk assessments across all sites; track corrective action plans to 100% completion.
Incident Investigation: Lead investigations for all major incidents and near-misses using standard root-cause methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone).
Workers’ Compensation: Partner with HR and insurance carriers to manage claims, coordinate return-to-work programs, and minimize financial exposure.
Training & Development: Design and implement robust training modules covering critical manufacturing risks (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Forklift Safety, Ergonomics).
Metrics & Analytics: Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for leading and lagging indicators (e.g., TRIR, Near-Miss rates) and report findings to executive leadership.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Experience: 7–10 years of progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a multi-site or regional leadership role.
Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is highly preferred.
Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in OSHA general industry standards (29 CFR 1910), EPA regulations, and behavioral-based safety (BBS) models.
Travel: Ability to travel frequently between the 3 manufacturing facilities (typically 30%–50% travel depending on location proximity).
Core Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, excellent communication across all organizational levels (shop floor to C-suite), and proven change-management capability.
