About the role:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a mission-driven financial leader responsible for guiding the organization’s fiscal strategy, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO provides strategic financial insight and stewardship to ARIS and five of its affiliated nonprofit agency partners. The CFO ensures transparency, accountability, and alignment of financial practices with the organization’s mission, vision, values, and regulatory requirements.
This role oversees all aspects of financial management, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, risk mitigation, and investment strategy. The CFO serves as a strategic advisor to the Executive Directors of ARIS and its agency partners and Board of Directors, translating complex financial data into actionable insights that inform high-stakes decision-making and advance the organization’s mission. The CFO also works to shape organizational priorities, drive financial innovation, and ensure the integrity of all financial systems and practices.
- Executive Financial Leadership
o Develop and execute long-term financial strategies aligned with organizational goals.
o Advise the Executive Directors of ARIS and agency partners, Board, and senior leadership on financial planning, performance, strategy, and risk.
o Provide financial leadership and guidance to five affiliated agencies, supporting consistency, compliance, and sustainability across organizations.
o Develop and execute long-term financial strategies aligned with organizational mission and goals, including capital planning, reserve strategies, and investment management.
o Partner with leadership to develop budgets, forecasts, scenario planning, and financial models that support effective decision-making and strategic planning.
o Present and explain financials to ARIS and Agency Board
- Financial Management & Compliance
o Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, and reporting across multiple programs and agencies.
o Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and nonprofit accounting standards.
o Manage all audits and process and maintain strong relationships with external auditors.
o Maintain robust financial systems and controls to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Strategic Planning & Analysis
o Direct the budgeting and forecasting processes across departments.
o Conduct financial modeling, scenario planning, and performance analysis to support strategic initiatives.
o Monitor financial performance and provide actionable insights to improve outcomes.
o Evaluate financial implications of new programs, partnerships, reserve strategies and capital investments.
- Internal Controls & Risk Management
o Design and oversee internal control systems to safeguard assets, ensure financial accuracy, and ethical financial practices.
o Conduct enterprise-wide risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
o Ensure proper management of restricted and unrestricted funds.
o Maintain proper insurance coverage and risk management strategies across all agencies and ARIS.
- Organizational Leadership & Collaboration
o Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
o Collaborate with program, development, and operations teams to align financial goals with programmatic impact.
o Serve as a financial liaison to the Board of Directors for ARIS and its agency partners, preparing reports and presenting strategic recommendations.
o Champion financial literacy and training across departments.
o Drive digital transformation initiatives to enhance financial systems and reporting capabilities.
o Champion process improvements and automation in financial workflows.
o Evaluate and implement financial technologies that improve efficiency and scalability.
- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (master’s degree in finance/accounting or business administration strongly preferred).
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Demonstrated experience with complex funding streams, such as Medicaid, government contracts, and multi-entity accounting.
- Expertise in nonprofit accounting, fund management, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in financial systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Exceptional analytic, strategic thinking, problem-solving, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage complex financial operations.

- Predominately sedentary office position with high frequency of keyboarding/computer work required.
