Full Job Description

Job Summary

A leading aerospace manufacturer is seeking a Continuous Improvement Leader to drive operational excellence at its West Michigan facility. In this role you will teach and facilitate standard operational excellence methods and tools to deliver measurable results in throughput, productivity, cost, inventory, and delivery performance. Supporting the plant's coatings and titanium ingot operations, you will act as an internal improvement partner, building the business case for change, coaching teams on the shop floor, and making improvements stick. This is a data-driven, influence-heavy role with a clear advancement path into Operational Excellence (OpEx) leadership.

Duties

Serve as an internal improvement agent and partner to operations, not an outside observer, teaching and facilitating standard CI methods and tools.
Lead and facilitate Kaizen events and improvement projects that reduce waste, improve cycle times, and increase productivity.
Conduct root cause analysis using structured problem-solving (5 Whys, fishbone, A3 thinking) and drive corrective actions to closure.
Serve as a technical expert in the company's operational excellence system and Toyota Production System principles, coaching and mentoring operators, supervisors, and managers.
Build compelling, data-driven business cases for interventions and measure success against business performance metrics.
Prioritize improvement work using hoshin planning aligned to plant and enterprise strategy.
Apply TPM/OEE, 5S, and visual factory management to improve equipment reliability and workplace organization.
Create follow-up plans and accountability structures to ensure lasting adoption of improvements.
Influence without direct authority; develop solutions based on direct feedback from operators and supervisors, and challenge the status quo.
Manage multiple initiatives under time pressure, coordinating resources, timelines, and milestones to completion.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
3+ years leading continuous improvement projects in a manufacturing environment.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship).

Preferred

Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Supply Chain.
Working knowledge of the Toyota Production System or a comparable lean production system, with the ability to teach and mentor others.
Lean manufacturing experience in aerospace, defense, or automotive.
Hands-on experience with hoshin planning, TPM/OEE, 5S, Kaizen, visual factory management, and A3 thinking.
Demonstrated ability to lead through major change initiatives across diverse groups.
Strong communication skills with the ability to present at all organizational levels.
