Job Description

Position: Resource Navigator

Accountability: This position reports directly to the Director of Resource Navigation

Location: Onsite, Newton Public Library, Newton, Kansas

Summary: The Resource Navigator is a frontline advocate who helps community members connect with the health and social services they need. Working out of the Newton Public Library, the Navigator meets people where they are and walks alongside them through complicated systems. This is direct-service work built on a client-centered, strengths-based, culturally responsive approach that has the capacity to move beyond the first conversation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide walk-in support tailored to each person's situation, connecting them to the right services quickly and respectfully.

· Guide clients through applications, referrals, and coordination across agencies, staying with them until they have what they need.

· Use warm handoffs to introduce clients directly to partner services, rather than handing over a phone number and hoping it sticks.

· Follow up over time to make provide opportunity for deepening collaboration and more meaningful access to resources.

· Support workshops and community events that help residents and providers understand what is available and how to access it.

· Build and maintain strong working relationships with local service and education partners.

· Represent the program professionally in the community and at the library.

· Advocate for clients within service systems so their concerns are heard and addressed.

· Help people understand and move through complex systems, connecting them to care rather than managing it for them.

· Share information and resources on wellness, community engagement, and the social factors that affect health, building people's confidence to advocate for themselves.

· Keep accurate, timely records of client interactions and referrals in the program's tracking system.

· Maintain confidentiality and help clients complete releases when needed for service coordination.

· Contribute data and observations that help the Director understand community needs and strengthen the program.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in social work preferred. A degree in psychology, vocational rehabilitation, or a related field will also be considered. Equivalent professional and/or community experience may substitute for formal education.

· Certified Community Health Worker (CHW), or the willingness and ability to complete CHW certification training upon hire.

· Experience in social services or a related field. Person-centered case management experience is a plus.

· Bilingual (English and Spanish) strongly preferred.

· Comfort working with people from many backgrounds and life circumstances, with genuine warmth and respect.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google applications, and willingness to learn the program's referral-tracking tools.

· Dependability, follow-through, and the ability to manage a steady flow of clients and details.

· A collaborative style that builds trust with clients, partners, and teammates.

· Commitment to equitable outcomes and to the dignity of every person who walks in.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registration

Valid Driver’s License

Salary: $38,000 - $40,000

Working Conditions

The resource navigator is a full-time, exempt employee of United Way of Harvey and Marion Counties, Inc. Normal workweek is Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, however, hours for this position will be determined by community need, with some evening and weekend hours. This position may require travel throughout Harvey County.
