Full Job Description

Role:

Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for the design, coordination, and technical execution of mechanical building systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. This role independently designs and analyzes HVAC, plumbing, and related mechanical systems while collaborating with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and clients throughout all phases of design and construction.

Responsibilities:

Design and coordinate mechanical systems, including HVAC, ductwork, plumbing, and related building systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects.
Develop detailed construction documents, system layouts, engineering calculations, and 3D building models using AutoCAD and Revit.
Perform heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations using TRACE 3D Plus to determine system requirements and properly size equipment.
Select and specify mechanical equipment, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, pumps, exhaust systems, and associated mechanical components.
Utilize engineering tools and custom calculators to improve design accuracy, productivity, and workflow efficiency.
Coordinate mechanical designs with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, civil engineers, contractors, owners, and other project stakeholders.
Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, energy codes, and industry standards, including ASHRAE, NFPA, IPC, UPC, and IECC.
Prepare technical reports, engineering studies, specifications, and supporting design documentation.
Participate in construction administration activities, including reviewing submittals, responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), evaluating field conditions, and conducting site observations.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality, budget, and schedule expectations.
Participate in client meetings and assist with project planning, coordination, and problem resolution.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of engineering standards and best practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field from an accredited university.
5 years of mechanical engineering experience
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and TRACE 3D Plus.
Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical building system design.
Working knowledge of ASHRAE, NFPA, IPC, UPC, IECC, and applicable building codes.
Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Skills:

Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam; Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
Working toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
