Status: Part Time (18 hours per week)

Pay: $25 per hour
The Williamstown Youth Center (WYC) is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit provider of services for young people and their families, located in Williamstown, Massachusetts. WYC is committed to nurturing the recreational, social, and emotional well-being of the youth in Williamstown and surrounding communities through quality programs for all. We accomplish this in a safe and enjoyable environment led by positive role models who provide and adapt programs and activities based on the needs of the community. WYC strives to make our programs and services available to all area families. For this reason, we provide need-based scholarships so that any child can afford to participate. We are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), and Educators must be EEC Group Leader eligible.
Position Summary:
The After School Program Art Educator creates and implements activity plans for groups of elementary school-aged children organized by grade (1–6). Two one-hour classes are held daily. Educators arrive on-site at 2:30 pm daily for room preparation and leave at 6:00 pm. The program day begins with child pick-up at 3:00 pm. The Educator will typically have at least one Program Assistant or other Lead Teacher assigned to their group. In addition to leading arts programming, the Educator is responsible for maintaining and regularly refreshing the visual presentation of WYC’s spaces, including the display and rotation of children’s artwork.
Responsibilities:
Art Programming
- Produce and execute a curriculum for arts programming, including but not limited to visual arts using a variety of media, based on the interests and developmental needs of the children, resources and staff
- Develop age-appropriate, engaging art activities that encourage creativity, exploration, and individual expression.
- Monitor and maintain an inventory of art supplies and materials; order supplies or submit order requests to the Business and Operations Director as needed.
Classroom Environment & Engagement
- Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children while managing classroom routines, behavior, transitions, and group activities.
- Work collaboratively with Program Assistants, Lead Teachers, and other WYC staff.
- Communicate professionally and appropriately with children, families, and WYC staff regarding programming, children's participation, and classroom needs.
- Comply with EEC and state laws and regulations.
WYC Environment & Community
- Maintain and regularly update the visual presentation of hallways, common rooms, and classrooms, ensuring children’s artwork is thoughtfully displayed and rotated and that the spaces reflect the WYC ethos.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe art and classroom spaces, including properly cleaning and storing materials and equipment after activities.
- Uphold WYC’s guiding principle (Collaborate, Aspire, Respect, Embrace).
Qualifications:
A Group Leader shall be at least eighteen years of age with art experience and meet one of the following sets of requirements:
- Have a Bachelor’s Degree or an Associate’s Degree and three months of experience working with school-age children, including experience in art-related programming or activities;
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent and six months of experience working with school-age children, including three months of supervised experience at a school-age child care program and experience in art-related programming or activities; or
- Have nine months of experience working with school-age children, including three months of supervised experience at a school-age child care program and experience in art-related programming or activities.
