CNC Machinist

CNC Machinist

Location: Wilmington, NC

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to set up, program, and operate CNC machining centers and lathes to produce high-quality precision components. The role focuses on translating engineering drawings into accurate machined parts, maintaining tooling and equipment, and following safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on CNC machining experience and is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Set up, program, and operate CNC mills and lathes to produce precision parts to print and tolerance specifications.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
Edit and optimize CNC programs (G-code) for part production; verify program accuracy through dry-runs and test cuts.
Select and install tooling, fixtures, and workholding; perform offsets and tool compensation.
Perform in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, CMM, and other metrology tools to verify part conformance.
Troubleshoot machining processes, identify causes of defects, and implement corrective actions to improve yield and reduce scrap.
Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on CNC machines to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
Maintain accurate production records, setup sheets, and inspection documentation.
Work with engineers and production planners to support process improvements, new product introductions, and job setups.
Follow all safety, housekeeping, and quality procedures; participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; technical school certificate in machining or manufacturing technology preferred.
Proven experience as a CNC Machinist with hands-on CNC machining skills (required).
Proficiency reading and interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, and GD&T.
Working knowledge of CNC programming concepts and G-code; ability to edit programs is preferred.
Strong measurement and inspection skills using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMM equipment.
Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain tight tolerances.
Ability to lift moderate weights, stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment.
Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Nice to have: experience with Fusion 360 for CAM programming.
Nice to have: hands-on experience operating Haas CNC machines.
