Full Job Description

Kitchen Manager/Sous Chef- The Sounder

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Kitchen Manager/Sous Chef to help lead our team in a fast-paced food service environment at one of Wilmington's newest restaurants- The Sounder. The Sounder is a large a coastal-inspired restaurant that opened in the winter of 2025, where the vibrant energy of the coast meets a sophisticated, yet comfortable dining and cocktail experience.

The Kitchen Manager/Sous Chef will provide day-to-day support to the Executive Chef and General Manager, and assist in managing the kitchen staff by scheduling kitchen operations, and furthering efforts to provide consistent food quality, job performance, and meet health standards. The Kitchen Manager/Sous Chef must have a high degree of commitment to food quality and safety standards with a complimenting knowledge of food waste control and cost reduction methods, including but not limited to labor costs.

Compensation will be based on candidate qualifications and experience.

Requirements:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

A strong base of culinary management knowledge, including but not limited to equipment usage and maintenance
Knowledge of the North Carolina and New Hanover County health codes and the ability to implement and supervise standards of procedure to ensure compliance among all staff at all times
Direct the kitchen with clear, decisive messages that lead to an overall efficient team environment
Ability to execute a high-volume casual fine dining pace
Continuously source local, high quality food suppliers in addition to national food vendors and maintain positive relationships with all key vendors
Provide training to facilitate quick understanding of company procedures and culture
Maintain a fully stocked kitchen inventory by collaborating with the Executive Chef
Streamline the kitchen processes to maintain prompt service times
Develop, price, and maintain the food menu with the Executive Chef, General Manager, and Company management
Recruit talented staff and assist in creation of schedules for all kitchen employees
Track kitchen finances to maintain and reduce COGS and work closely with Controller and Company management to provide necessary data and reports
Promote the Company’s vision and commitment to local seafood, cuisine, and craft beer
