Part-Time | Approximately 15–20 Hours per Week | $23+ per Hour, Commensurate with Experience

About the Position

The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of North Carolina is seeking an experienced, dependable, and highly organized Part-Time Bookkeeper to support the day-to-day financial operations of our statewide nonprofit organization and historic properties.

This is a hands-on bookkeeping position for someone who enjoys keeping financial records accurate, current, and well organized. The Bookkeeper will work closely with the Executive Director and may also work with outside accounting, financial consulting, payroll, audit, and other professional firms as needed.

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of routine bookkeeping responsibilities while helping us maintain strong, efficient financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate and current financial records in QuickBooks
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
Record and properly classify income and expenses
Record donations, membership payments, grants, and other revenue
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
Assist with payroll processing and related recordkeeping
Prepare regular financial reports for management
Maintain organized digital financial records and supporting documentation
Track restricted funds and grant-related financial activity
Assist with audit preparation and respond to bookkeeping questions from auditors and other outside financial professionals
Support the Executive Director with other routine financial and bookkeeping needs

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience
Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks
Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and follow established financial procedures
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and outside professionals
Experience with nonprofit accounting, restricted funds, grants, donations, or membership organizations is strongly preferred

Position Details

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 15–20 hours per week. Work will primarily be performed on-site at the Society’s office at the Burgwin-Wright House & Gardens in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.

Compensation: $23 + per hour, commensurate with experience.

Final Selection: References will be requested for final candidates. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check and a credit check appropriate to the financial responsibilities of the position.
