Job Description:

Bryn Mawr College invites applications for a public historian, archivist, scholar , or journalist with expertise in post-nineteenth - century American collegiate life, women’s/gender history, African American history and/or intersectional histories, and digital scholarship . Reporting directly to the Vice President, Chief Information Officer, and Constance A. Jones Director of Libraries, the successful candidate will partner with the Bryn Mawr College community on a series of initiatives related to Bryn Mawr College Histories and its place in the present higher education landscape.

About the Institution: Since its founding in 1885, Bryn Mawr College has been the preeminent college for women interested in the pursuit of wisdom necessary to challenge the world's expectations. With its pioneering American Collegiate Gothic architecture and picturesque landscape, our campus is recognized as one of the most beautiful in the country. Located less than 15 miles from Philadelphia and within 2-3 hours of New York City, Baltimore, and Washington, DC, Bryn Mawr offers easy access to public transportation and endless recreation, dining, retail, and cultural activities.

Schedule & Benefits: Bryn Mawr is committed to building and sustaining a campus community where faculty and staff can thrive. The College offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits . This is a full-time , temporary staff position for a 12-month term , commencing on or about September 1 5 , 2026 , and concluding on or about September 15 , 2027 . The position has an anticipated schedule of 35 hours per week and is eligible for 22 days of vacation per year, three days of personal leave, generous holiday time (including an extended winter break between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day), sick leave, life insurance, medical, dental, and vision, retirement, and more. Characteristic Responsibilities: Drawing on work completed at the College over the last few years through Who Built Bryn Mawr , Art Remediating Campus Histories (ARCH) , and related initiatives, this researcher will:

Build a comprehensive historical timeline of the College and future research agenda, framing existing scholarships and identifying areas and periods where additional scholarly examination is warranted .

Identify primary historical themes and threads through archival research and literature review to best illustrate the story of Bryn Mawr College and its graduates' impact on the world.

Partner with College leadership and constituents to review and integrate historical storytelling and institutional impact into public-facing venues.

Conduct targeted historical research as needed to inform College communications and marketing , including presidential writing and speaking, materials for members of the on-campus community, alumn ae/ i publications, recruitment materials, etc.

Collaborate with leadership in the faculty, student, staff, and alumnae / a communities to connect the College’s history to its future .

Qualifications:

Master's degree in history, public history, museum studies, or a related field with equivalent education, training, and/or experience. (PhD or terminal degree preferred).

Demonstrated experience in archival or public history research and teaching.

Strong record of community-engaged scholarship or programming.

Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills as they relate to the community.

Experience in creative, innovative, and engaging storytelling .

Experience and comfort with digital scholarship techniques and tools is preferred.
