Full Job Description

JOB The Village of Caledonia Fire Department in Racine County, Wisconsin, is looking for highly motivated and dedicated individuals to fill current full-time vacancies for the Firefighter/Paramedic position. The Caledonia Fire Department (CFD) is an “all-hazards” career department that provides fire and medical services to the 27,804 residents of Caledonia, Wind Point, and North Bay.

The department consists of 50 personnel, including (1) Fire Chief, (1) administrative assistant, (3) Battalion Chiefs, (9) Lieutenants, and (36) firefighters/EMT Basics or Paramedics, operating out of three firehouses. In 2025, the department responded to 3,624 emergency service calls while following a 24/48 work schedule.

The Caledonia Fire Department is a member of the Racine County Fire Academy (RCFA). EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

The firefighter is responsible for fire suppression, fire inspection, vehicle and fire station maintenance, hazardous material response, rescue operations, and emergency medical services.
Operate and perform maintenance checks on all fire department vehicles and equipment.
Respond as a medical team member to bring basic or advanced emergency medical care to the community's citizens.
Prepare reports and maintain records under the supervision of the shift commander/shift officer.
Participate in daily training exercises and classroom lectures.
Conduct fire inspections in various occupancies in the jurisdiction.
Perform duties as a fire apparatus driver and motor pump operator when assigned.
Perform duties as a certified firefighter/EMT/paramedic according to the department's criteria and standards.
Responsible for station cleanliness and maintenance of apparatus, tools, equipment, and all other fire department property.
Conduct demonstrations, tours, and public speeches on fire safety, fire prevention, CPR, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, first aid, and other subjects to the public

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSTION:

Major life activities.
Effective communication, oral and written, with supervisors, peers and public.
Understanding and following work rules and Standard Operating Guidelines.
Read, write, add and subtract.
Knowledge of national, state and local laws and fire safety codes.
Organize, direct and coordinate written and oral reports.
Skills in report writing, computer usage, driving and two-way radio usage.
Knowledge of fire protection system, water supply, building construction, natural and man-made disasters, fire control and extinguishments and combustible and flammable materials
Skills in firefighting, EMT, fire inspection and public relations
Those candidates possessing other pertinent certifications and/or training will receive additional consideration.
