Description

Restorative Practices Coordinator at Julian Thomas Elementary School

Position Summary

The Restorative Practices Coordinator supports the development of a positive, inclusive, and relationship-centered school culture by implementing restorative practices. This role emphasizes proactive relationship-building, conflict prevention, and restorative responses to harm. The coordinator collaborates with students, staff, and families to reduce disciplinary incidents, strengthen relationships, and promote accountability, belonging, and engagement across the school community.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or related field required
Master’s degree preferred
Experience working in K–12 school settings; Elementary experience preferred
Demonstrated experience with behavior support, school climate initiatives, or student services

Licenses and Certifications:

Restorative Practices, Restorative Justice, or Conflict Mediation training preferred
Valid Wisconsin DPI License (either a Teacher, Social Worker, Counselor, Psychologist License is acceptable)

Essential Functions:

Prevention & School Culture

Lead implementation of Tier I restorative practices across the school
Facilitate and model community-building circles to promote belonging and connection
Support staff in embedding restorative practices into daily classroom routines and expectations
Provide professional development and coaching focused on proactive strategies, relationship-building, and restorative language
Collaborate with school leadership to align restorative practices with PBIS Tier I expectations and SEL instruction
Support the development of consistent, schoolwide practices that create predictability, trust, and a positive climate

Intervention & Conflict Resolution

Facilitate restorative conferences and mediations to repair harm and restore relationships
Support students in developing accountability and repair-of-harm plans
Provide restorative alternatives to exclusionary discipline when appropriate

Collaboration & Systems Support

Partner with administrators, counselors, and MTSS/behavior teams to support students
Engage families in restorative processes as appropriate
Support the development of student leadership opportunities

Data & Continuous Improvement

Analyze discipline and climate data to identify Tier I strengths and gaps
Monitor the effectiveness of restorative practices in reducing referrals and improving belonging
Support continuous improvement of schoolwide systems through data and feedback

Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to implement schoolwide Tier I systems
Strong facilitation and conflict resolution skills
Ability to build relationships with diverse student populations
Ability to coach and support adult learners
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered practices

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of PBIS, SEL, MTSS, and restorative practices frameworks
Skill in facilitating circles, mediating conflict, and leading groups
Ability to align practices across systems to strengthen Tier I supports
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Physical Demands:

Must be able to spend up to 70% of the day walking.

Able to walk or run quickly through hallways and stairwells in an emergency situation.

Ability to stand for prolonged periods, respond to active crisis situations and support student movement.

Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance

Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance

Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building

Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment

Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone

Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm

Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy
