Position: Hospice Volunteer
Our Hospice volunteers provide comfort and peace to homebound seniors and disabled adults. Volunteering is a wonderful way for individuals to provide support to patients and community members.
Visits may include the following activities:

- Conversation
-
Respite Care
-
Prepare snack
-
Reminisce & look at photos
-
Review current events
-
Read the newspaper, books, or magazines.

Write letters
-
Provide appointment reminders
-
Chronicle life experiences
-
Assist with recreational activities
-
Take Walks
-
Participate in crafts
-
Do Puzzles
-
Listen to music
-
Play Board Games/Cards
-
Watch movies/TV shows
At the end of life, presence matters just as much as care. A quiet conversation, a shared story, or simply sitting beside someone can bring peace, dignity, and comfort during one of life’s most meaningful moments.
As a Volunteer Hospice Companion, you help ensure that no one feels alone. Your time allows family caregivers to rest, recharge, and spend their energy where it matters most. For patients, your companionship offers reassurance, connection, and humanity beyond medical care.
This role matters because it creates moments of comfort that families remember forever—and because your kindness helps turn a difficult chapter into one filled with compassion, respect, and warmth.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

Establish a basis for friendship through mutuality and trust.

Provide emotional support to patient and caregiver.

Provide respite care as needed.

Encourage recreational or diversional activities; such as to read to

discuss articles or books
-
play games
-
write letters
-
share hobbies
-
make scrapbooks for photos and memorabilia.

May provide following assists as secondary to social contact; such as light housekeeping tasks.
No hands-on medical care is required or permitted-this role is strictly non-clinical and supportive.
