Full Job Description

Leo’s Seafood Restaurant & Bar is the premier dining destination for exquisite seafood, classic cuisine, decadent desserts, and a world-class wine list. Located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan since 2004, Leo’s has stayed committed to always sourcing fresh quality ingredients, carefully crafting each menu, and delivering an extraordinary experience to each and every guest.

The Maître d' serves as the first and last impression for every guest, setting the tone for an exceptional dining experience. This leadership role oversees the flow of the dining room by managing reservations, greeting guests, coordinating seating, and supporting the front-of-house team to ensure seamless service. The ideal candidate is polished, organized, guest-focused, and thrives in a fast-paced, hospitality-driven environment.

Leo’s operates high volume meal periods Monday - Friday 11:30a - 9p and Saturdays 4:30p - 10p. We are open on Sundays for special occasions.

Key Responsibilities

Promptly greet all guests arriving to the restaurant in a warm and welcoming manner
Using Open Table, locate guest reservations or enter walk-ins into the system, acknowledge any special requests or occasions, and seat guests in a timely manner
Assist in coordinating guest seating and table flow to support efficient service during high-volume periods
Provide guidance and direction to host team members to ensure consistent service and organization at the host stand
Take complete reservations over the phone and in person, noting any special requests or occasions
Assist with calling and confirming reservations
Answer guest questions to the best of your ability, including basic menu knowledge, daily specials and soup du jour; knowledge of downtown directions, area events, and parking
Ensure the host stand, coatroom, and restaurant lobby remain tidy, stocked, and organized throughout service
Monitor guest wait times and communicate updates to both guests and management when necessary
Check bathrooms for cleanliness and stock supplies every 30 minutes
Assist management with training and supporting new host team members
Provide coat check services during the appropriate season
Serve as the point of contact for host staff during service and escalate concerns to management when needed

Qualifications & Skills

Previous host, front desk, administrative, or hospitality leadership experience required
Basic computer proficiency and experience with OpenTable or a similar reservation system preferred
Must be reliable with the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Personable, positive, and professional demeanor with exceptional hospitality skills
Strong leadership, teamwork, and guest service abilities
Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
Excellent verbal, written, and phone communication skills
Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency and initiative
Adaptable in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

Preferred

Supervisory or leadership experience in a restaurant or hospitality setting
Knowledge of wine, cocktails, and fine dining etiquette
Experience handling VIP guests and special events

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Must be able to be on feet for extended periods of time
Frequent bending, reaching, and light lifting (up to 25 pounds)
