Outpatient Retail Pharmacist
Gratiot, OH | Full Time
This hospital system, recognized by Forbes as a top 100 hospital, is hiring a full time Outpatient Pharmacist to join its retail pharmacy team in east central Ohio. The pharmacy operates with strong RPh coverage and support staff, and this role reports directly to the Pharmacy Manager.
Schedule
The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday, 8am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 5pm. This role can be scheduled as three 12 hour shifts or four 10 hour shifts per week, with coverage from four RPh's and 15 to 18 technicians during a typical 12 hour weekday. Weekend rotation is one Saturday every four weeks and one Sunday every twelve weeks. The pharmacy is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas, with other holidays rotated so each pharmacist works one holiday every year or two. Prescription volume runs approximately 1,000 per day on Mondays, 700 to 800 on other weekdays, and 250 to 300 on weekends.
Compensation
$54.85 to $75.00 per hour ($114,000 to $156,000 per year), based on experience. A pharmacist with approximately 10 years of experience would fall around $64.52 per hour ($134,000 per year).
What You'll Do
This pharmacist interprets prescriptions and dispenses pharmaceuticals and related devices in accordance with federal, state, and local law, and provides patient education and counseling on medication use. The role includes reviewing patient drug utilization, therapeutic duplication, disease state, drug interactions, allergies, dosage, and duration of treatment, and taking appropriate clinical action when concerns arise, as well as contacting prescribers to clarify orders or address unobtainable medications. The pharmacist verifies that the correct pharmaceutical agent and drug are dispensed to the correct patient from the correct practitioner, calculates doses, and prepares compounded prescriptions and IV medications according to physician orders. The pharmacy uses a Parata Max robot that dispenses approximately 45 percent of prescription volume. This role also supervises technical staff, assigns workflow, approves overtime and time off, assists with training new staff and interns, supports inventory and ordering of pharmaceutical stock, oversees cash management for the pharmacy, and serves as pharmacist in charge in the absence of the Pharmacy Manager.
