Full Job Description

Overview

Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is seeking a Senior Director of the Federal Advocacy team to support its advocacy efforts. The Senior Director is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships while building support for PhRMA's priorities, policies, and positions. The individual will lobby members of Congress and their staff, with a focus on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee democrats.

The Sr. Director will:

Lobby Senate Democratic members and their staff on potential/proposed legislation and the impact of such legislation on patients and the pharmaceutical industry.
Coordinate with PhRMA colleagues and member company staff on policy positions and the development of legislative strategy related to PhRMA priorities.
Build and maintain relationships with Member company staff and other stakeholders.
Represent the Federal Advocacy team at internal PhRMA meetings and collaborate across departments on policy, engagement strategy and messaging materials.
Anticipate, track, and analyze legislation relevant to industry priorities, and make recommendations for executing on key initiatives involving PhRMA staff and member company representatives as needed.
Develop relationships with priority Democratic members by conducting situational analyses and anticipating Senate policy positions to lobby.
Manage consultants who provide services to the Federal Advocacy team.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Success Factors

PhRMA seeks a proactive, confident and action-oriented individual who is passionate about contributing to the health care challenges we face today. Key success factors for this role include a strong sense of team and collaborative focus. The preferred candidate will bring substantive health care communications expertise and be an organized, detail-oriented, self-starter with excellent writing skills and the ability to convey content in an audience-appropriate and compelling manner. Demonstrated consensus building, decision-making and interpersonal skills are essential. This is a highly visible, fast-paced position that is both internally and externally facing. Accordingly, the successful candidate should be adaptable, able to reprioritize and shift gears quickly, comfortable in a high-pressure environment and be politically savvy, diplomatic, responsive, and mature.

Professional Experience / Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration or in a related field.
8+ years of combined legislative, White House, government affairs consulting and/or pharmaceutical industry experience.
Understanding of procedures, protocols of standing committees regarding witnesses, testimony and Congressional activities, working knowledge of the Congressional process and ethics rules and regulations.
Strong relationship-building skills, integrity, and reputation.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrate collaboration and be a team player.

Potential Salary

Sr. Director: $169,300-$237,100. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
