Shop Helper

Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime) $17-$18/hr

Standard work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Employees assigned to delivery duties may be scheduled from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM based on operational needs.
Position Summary
We are looking for a hardworking and dependable Shop Helper to support our HVAC and sheet metal fabrication team. This role helps keep our shop organized, safe, and productive by assisting mechanics and fabricators with materials, equipment, deliveries, and general shop duties. The position may also support material deliveries to jobsites using company vehicles.
What You'll Do
- Assist sheet metal mechanics and fabricators with daily shop activities.
- Load, unload, move, and organize materials.
- Help prepare ductwork and materials for fabrication and delivery.
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and safe.
- Assist with inventory and material tracking.
- Operate basic hand tools and shop equipment after training.
- Load and unload company vehicles and delivery trucks.
- Perform local deliveries to jobsites and vendors when assigned.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Driver Requirements
- Valid CDL driver's license preferred
- Ability to safely operate a company box truck and other authorized vehicles.
- Maintain an acceptable driving record and comply with Company vehicle policies.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Safely transport materials, tools, and equipment to jobsites and vendors.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and securing materials for transport.
Forklift Certification & Equipment Operation
- Forklift certification is preferred but not required.
- Ability and willingness to obtain Company-sponsored forklift certification if not currently certified.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other material handling equipment.
- Ability to inspect equipment before use and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and Company safety policies related to powered industrial trucks.
Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for most of the workday.
- Frequently bend, kneel, squat, and climb.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Push, pull, and move materials throughout the shop.
- Safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment.
- Frequently enter and exit forklifts and company vehicles throughout the workday.
- Work safely around fabrication equipment and machinery.
- Work in a shop environment with noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Wear required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, and steel-toe boots.

Safety Requirements
- Successfully complete all required Company safety training.
- Complete forklift certification training if assigned to operate powered industrial trucks.
- Follow OSHA regulations, Company safety policies, DOT regulations, and Local 28 work rules.
- Immediately report accidents, near misses, equipment damage, and unsafe conditions.
