Full Job Description

Overview: Menn Law Firm, Ltd. traces its roots to 1926, when two young lawyers, Homer H. Benton and Alfred C. Bosser, formed a partnership. Benton and Bosser envisioned a law firm that specialized in both advising and advocating on behalf of clients, with a goal to create a preeminent law firm in Appleton with one group of attorneys concentrating on litigation, and one group of attorneys concentrating on business and personal legal matters. Over the years, the firm has grown and evolved but has stayed true to the vision established by Benton and Bosser, and remains dedicated to providing its clients with timely, practical and cost-effective services of the highest quality.

Job Description: We are currently seeking a Legal Assistant for our Appleton location. Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Interact with clients and build relationships with them by phone, email and in person

· Schedule client calls and meetings

· Assure the attorneys’ calendars are accurately maintained and organized in a logical and efficient manner

· Interact with the courts and administrative agencies regarding hearings, motions and other appearances

o Become the court’s primary point of contact with the firm for all administrative and scheduling issues

· Prepare and send bills to clients (as needed)

· Prepare and assure the execution of engagement agreements as directed by supervising attorney

o Combine boilerplate language in the engagement agreement with the attorneys’ instruction which customizes the agreement, reducing attorneys’ involvement

o Assistants will also see that clients receive the engagement agreement and that they execute it and return it to the firm

· Accurately maintains supervising attorneys’ calendars and sends reminders

· Assure the attorneys’ workdays are organized in a logical and efficient manner

· Retrieves and delivers assigned attorneys voicemails and assures that copies are included in firm’s client files (paper, electronic or both)

· Manages attorneys’ mail. Retrieves, date stamps and opens mail for assigned attorneys

· Prepares and sends legal correspondence as directed by attorneys

· Prepares and files legal documents with the court as directed by supervising attorneys

· Puts documents keyboarded initially by attorneys into final form, ready to be delivered to courts, clients, and co-counsel and opposing counsel

· Drafts non-legal correspondence

· Organizes attorneys’ files

o Assures that the attorney has all of the relevant materials ready when the attorney has meetings, or leaves the office for court or outside meetings

· Provides a variety of administrative tasks such as:

o Enters time and billing data

o Sets up and manages new client and firm files

o Makes copies/scans documents

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Associate’s degree or higher preferred

· Prior law firm experience preferred

· Legal secretary, file clerk, receptionist, or project assistant experience required

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
