About the Role
The Small Engine & Turf Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of commercial outdoor power equipment. This includes zero-turn mowers, stand-on and walk-behind units, as well as commercial handheld outdoor power equipment such as trimmers, blowers, and chainsaws. The mechanic will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, and complete repairs to manufacturer standards. Accuracy in documentation, efficiency, and adherence to safety procedures are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair commercial equipment, including:
- Zero-turn and stand-on mowers
- Commercial handheld outdoor power equipment
- Perform routine preventative maintenance: oil and filter changes, blade sharpening, belt replacement, deck leveling, and general tune-ups
- Conduct hydraulic system work including fluid changes, hydrostatic repairs, and hydraulic line fabrication
- Handle additional services including tire changes, battery replacement, winterization, and electrical diagnostics.
- Maintain proper documentation of service work performed and parts used, communicating clearly with the parts and sales teams.
Qualifications
- Practical experience with small engine repair or outdoor power equipment.
- Working knowledge of 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to read schematics and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with key brands (Toro, Scag, Wright, Echo, Exmark, etc.).
- Self-motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a team environment.
