MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (PHLEBOTOMIST) – VA TOGUS | AUGUSTA, MAINE

Location:
VA Maine Medical Center (TOGUS)
1 VA Center
Augusta, ME 04330

Openings:
4 Full-Time Phlebotomists (4 FTEs)

Pay

$30.00/hour
$1,200/week (40 hours)

Schedule
Day shift (as determined by VA lab needs)
Includes inpatient, outpatient, ED, STAT, ASAP, and timed draws

Workdays
Monday – Friday
May include rotating coverage based on VA laboratory needs

Hours Per Week
40 Hours per Week per FTE

Position Overview
VA Maine Medical Center (TOGUS) is seeking experienced Medical Technicians (Phlebotomists) to provide full-scope laboratory specimen collection and processing services. The phlebotomist will support inpatient and outpatient care by performing blood draws, sample processing, and ensuring accurate handling and documentation of patient specimens in accordance with VA and CLSI standards.

Key Responsibilities
Perform venipuncture and patient phlebotomy for inpatient and outpatient services
Complete STAT, ASAP, timed, and routine lab draws
Perform specimen processing and send-out preparation
Properly identify patients prior to specimen collection
Safeguard patient data and maintain confidentiality (electronic and paper records)
Process, evaluate, and document laboratory testing and QC results
Identify and resolve collection, processing, or reporting issues
Maintain compliance with safety, infection control, and VA lab protocols
Provide professional, patient-centered service to avoid complaints and ensure quality care

Minimum Requirements
Minimum 3 years of recent phlebotomy experience
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently
Ability to complete VA credentialing and privileging requirements
Must meet VA competency and training standards
Continuing education (CEUs/CMEs) as required by the VA

Required Certifications / Training
BLS (as required, every 2 years)
ACLS (as required, every 2 years)

Additional Requirements
Must comply with VA infection control and CDC guidelines
Must maintain competency and provide documentation upon request of CO/COR
Must complete all required onboarding and VA training modules
Must adhere to OSHA and VHA safety standards
Must maintain professionalism in all patient interactions
