The Athletic Trainer has responsibilities in the UAB Orthopedic clinic and UAB Sport Medicine clinic. This position will provide athletic training services for UAB Orthopedic clinic and UAB Sport Medicine clinic under the direction of a designated physician. The Athletic Trainer has direct patient contact primarily for the evaluation and treatment of medical and musculoskeletal pathology consistent with the scope and practice of athletic training clinical competencies as defined by Board of Certification and the State of Alabama Athletic Training Affiliated Credentialing Board. This position will perform many of the outlined tasks with minimal or no supervision in the clinical setting and in the field. Patients include pediatric through geriatric populations in the clinical setting. This position has access to and knowledge of confidential medical information regarding patients' medical history; access to this information is crucial in the evaluation and treatment of patients and athletes. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/and or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds is required.
Required: Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, Physical or Health Education, Exercise Physiology, or a related field, and two (2) years’ experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer in an Outreach, Rehab, or Physician Practice setting. Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) years’ experience may substitute for Master’s degree. Preferred: Experience as an Athletic Trainer in the Physician Practice setting. Currently certified as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC). Must obtain licensure for Athletic Training by the State of Alabama upon hire. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within thirty (30) days of employment.
