Part-Time Legal Assistant (Bankruptcy Practice)

Location: Roanoke, VA (Primarily Remote)

Employment Type: Part-Time with Potential for Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support our growing bankruptcy practice based in Roanoke, Virginia. This position is primarily work-from-home, offering flexibility while still maintaining a connection to the office. The selected candidate will be expected to visit the office several times per week to handle incoming and outgoing mail and complete certain in-person administrative tasks.

This role is ideal for someone who is organized, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently, with the opportunity to grow into a full-time position as the practice expands.

Key Responsibilities

Answer incoming calls to schedule appointments
Communicate with clients to collect documents and provide updates on their cases
Monitor deadlines and ensure timely filings with the bankruptcy court
Maintain and organize electronic files and documents
Retrieve, sort, and process mail from the office multiple times per week
Draft correspondence and routine legal documents
Perform general administrative tasks, including scheduling and data entry

Qualifications

Prior experience as a legal assistant or in an administrative role preferred
Bankruptcy experience (Chapter 7 and/or Chapter 13) is a strong plus, but not required
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Empathy for working with individuals in difficult situations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office required (proficiency in case management systems such as Clio and Best Case a plus)
Dependable transportation to visit the Roanoke office several times per week
High level of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information

Work Schedule

Part-time (approximately 18-20 hours per week, 3-4 days per week to start)
Some schedule flexibility within office hours, with regular weekly trips to the office required
Opportunity for increased hours and transition to full-time based on business needs
