Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Utility Auditor/Consultant to join our team and drive excellence in utility management and financial oversight. In this role, you will analyze utility expenses, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and provide strategic insights to optimize utility usage and costs. Your expertise will support our commitment to transparency, accuracy, and efficiency in utility-related financial activities. This is an exciting opportunity for professionals passionate about financial analysis, regulatory compliance, and risk management within the utility sector.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive audits of utility bills, contracts, and usage data to identify discrepancies, cost-saving opportunities, and compliance issues.
Review and analyze utility consumption patterns to recommend efficiency improvements and cost reductions.
Ensure adherence to regulatory reporting requirements and industry standards such as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act).
Assist in the preparation of detailed financial reports related to utility expenses, including variance analysis and trend reports.
Support internal audits by evaluating internal controls over utility billing processes and recommending enhancements aligned with COSO (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations) frameworks.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including corporate accounting, tax specialists, and risk management to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
Utilize advanced accounting software and financial analysis tools to streamline audit processes and improve data accuracy.

Skills

Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks such as GAAP, GAAS (Generally Accepted Auditing Standards), and governmental accounting principles.
Proven experience in financial report writing, analysis skills, and auditing within the utility or financial services sectors.
Knowledge of internal controls, risk management practices, and COSO guidelines for effective governance.
Technical accounting expertise with a focus on corporate accounting, tax experience, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Familiarity with accounting software platforms, general ledger accounting systems, and financial software tools for data analysis.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial concepts and identify potential issues proactively.
Experience in public accounting or internal audits is highly desirable to ensure thorough evaluation of financial processes.
