Full Job Description

American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery(ABOS) is a leading organization dedicated to setting high standards in assessment and certification. Our work is grounded in precision, efficiency, and a commitment to delivering exceptional support to our candidates and stakeholders. We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Assessment Specialist to join our team, contributing to the smooth operation of our examination processes.

Position Overview: The Assessment Specialist - Written Examinations at the ABOS is essential to the successful development, preparation, and administration of our written examinations. In this role, you will collaborate with external organizations, coordinate with subject matter experts, and manage logistical aspects of exam-related meetings. You will ensure that all examination data is transmitted accurately, candidates are supported effectively, and the integrity of our processes is upheld.

Key Responsibilities:

Written Examination Operations:

Coordinate the operational activities supporting the development, administration, scoring, and maintenance of the ABOS Written Examinations.
Support Written Examination Content Committee activities by coordinating participant invitations, meeting logistics, materials, and administrative documentation.
Schedule and organize, and support Blueprint, Question Writing Task Force, Form Review, Standard Setting, and other Written Examination committee meetings.
Coordinate examination development timelines and ensure project milestones are completed on schedule.
Collaborate with psychometric consultants to support examination development, question linking, scoring, and statistical review activities.
Coordinate with examination delivery vendors to support successful examination administration and resolve candidate issues or examination irregularities.
Monitor examination workflows to ensure timely processing of examination results and communications.

Web-Based Longitudinal Assessment (WLA) Operations:

Coordinate operational support for WLA Committee activities and examination development.
Assist with knowledge source management, journal relationships, and collaboration with external content partners.
Review, edit, and maintain examination questions throughout the development lifecycle to ensure clarity, consistency, and quality.
Coordinate item writer recruitment, committee activities, and crowd-sourced review processes.
Support the implementation of improvements that enhance examination quality and operational efficiency.

Committee, Volunteer, and Meeting Administration:

Coordinate meeting logistics, travel arrangements, accommodations, catering, and meeting materials for committee members and volunteers.
Maintain volunteer participation records and administer volunteer recognition and Continuing Medical Education/SAE credit activities.
Ensure committee records, documentation, and examination materials are maintained accurately and confidentially.

Operational Support and Continuous Improvement:

Collaborate with internal departments to support examination administration, candidate communications, and operational readiness.
Monitor examination processes and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, quality, and stakeholder satisfaction.
Assist in maintaining operational procedures, documentation, and compliance with organizational policies and examination standards.

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

3+ years experience coordinating assessments, examinations, certification programs, healthcare administration, higher education, or related operational functions.
Experience coordinating committees, meetings, or volunteer activities.
Experience working with Microsoft Office applications and similar programs
Experience working with external vendors and multiple stakeholders.

Key Skills and Abilities:

Strong understanding of data transmission processes and examination eligibility criteria.
Proficient in MS Excel, including data analysis and spreadsheet management.
Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Effective critical thinking, conflict resolution, and collaboration skills.
Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively with committees, external partners, and internal teams.
