Full Job Description

Summary

Carolina Youth Coalition (CYC) is seeking mission-driven Part-Time Instructors & College & Academic Coaches to support high-achieving, under-resourced high school students through academic instruction, college and career readiness programming, ACT preparation, and individualized student coaching.

CYC is hiring part-time team members for the upcoming school year. Because our programming spans academic success, ACT preparation, STEM enrichment, writing, college access, and individualized student support, we welcome candidates with a range of backgrounds. Ideal candidates may bring experience in classroom instruction, tutoring, academic support, college advising, youth development, STEM, writing, or standardized test preparation.

This in-person role is ideal for an educator, advisor, tutor, counselor, graduate student, or emerging professional who enjoys building relationships with high school students and helping them develop the skills, confidence, and guidance needed to be successful in high school and competitive in the college and scholarship process.

This position will begin on or before Monday, August 24th, 2026 and run through May. Expected hours are approximately 10–15 hours per week, depending on program needs and candidate availability.

CYC programming takes place at two Charlotte campuses:

Southwest Campus: 4200 Sandy Porter Road, Charlotte, NC 28273
East Campus: 6035 Florence Avenue, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28212

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Programming Facilitation

Facilitate workshops for high school students in areas aligned with CYC programming and the candidate’s strengths.
Lead or support academic success workshops focused on topics such as study skills, time management, goal-setting, executive functioning, test-taking strategies, and high school success.
Facilitate college access and readiness programming related to college exploration, best-fit planning, scholarship preparation, goal-setting, and postsecondary pathways.
Support ACT preparation classes for high school students in one or more subject areas, such as Math, Science, English, or Reading; paid training and curriculum will be provided.
Facilitate enrichment workshops that may include STEM, writing, career exploration, leadership development, or other academic and college-readiness topics.
Deliver engaging, high-quality lessons using CYC-provided curriculum, materials, and training.

College & Academic Coaching

Maintain a roster of high school Fellows and meet with them one-on-one throughout the year.
Provide individualized coaching to help Fellows stay on track academically, build confidence, and access the resources and guidance they need.
Support Fellows in becoming competitive college and scholarship applicants by helping them understand academic expectations, goal-setting, extracurricular involvement, college fit, and next steps.
Discuss topics such as grades, course rigor, school-life balance, academic habits, college and career interests, and personal goals.
Help Fellows identify and access appropriate school-based, CYC-based, and community-based resources.
Serve as a consistent, supportive adult presence who helps Fellows feel known, encouraged, and accountable.

Program Support

Support general CYC programming and operations as needed, including student check-in, attendance, data updates, program set-up, and student follow-up.
Collaborate with CYC staff to ensure Fellows receive consistent academic, college access, and personal support.
Attend required meetings, trainings, and planning sessions.
Support select evening and/or weekend events, including ACT Boot Camps or other special events, as needed and agreed upon in advance.

Weekly Schedule:

The exact schedule will depend on program needs, campus assignments, and candidate availability. Most programming occurs on weekday afternoons and evenings, with occasional Saturday or Sunday commitments.

Expected weekly hours: 10–15 hours per week

Potential program days may include Monday–Thursday 3:30PM - 7:30PM, with some flexibility required depending on role assignment.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required

Bachelor’s degree required; field of study is flexible.
Experience working with high school students in an educational, mentoring, tutoring, advising, counseling, coaching, or youth development capacity.
Strong facilitation and relationship-building skills.
Ability to connect with, motivate, and support high school students.
Reliable, organized, and comfortable managing small or large groups of students.
Comfortable providing individualized student support and tracking follow-up.
Culturally responsive and committed to supporting high-achieving students from under-resourced backgrounds.
Comfortable using basic technology, including Google Suite and Zoom.
Willingness to be trained in CYC curriculum, systems, and student support practices.

Preferred / Nice to Have

Teaching, tutoring, counseling, advising, or classroom instruction experience.
Background in college access, college advising, academic coaching, or scholarship support.
Background or coursework in STEM, writing, education, counseling, social work, or a related field.
Prior experience with ACT, SAT, or standardized test preparation.
Experience providing individualized student support, advising, mentoring, or case management.
Bilingual abilities or experience working in diverse learning environments.

Compensation & Schedule:

Hourly Rate: $22 - 25/hour
Weekly Hours: 10–15 hours/week
Start Date: On or before August 24th, 2026
Location: This is an in-person role. Must have reliable transportation to travel between both CYC campuses.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
