Description of Work

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte recognizes the differentiation of mission, goals, and objectives inherent in the diversity of disciplines represented by its colleges and departments. Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a visiting assistant teaching professor beginning August 10, 2026. This is a one year, non-renewable position.
Within a 4-4 teaching load, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Latin American History that service our curricula in History and Latin American Studies.

Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience

Required qualifications: A Ph.D. in History or related field is required at the time of appointment, college-level teaching experience, and a commitment to serving UNC Charlotte students of all backgrounds. The field of specialization is Latin American history.
Desired qualifications: We are also interested in candidates with additional expertise and the ability to teach courses in the following fields: Atlantic World/US history before 1865, public history, capitalism studies, or women and gender studies.

Finalists will be asked to discuss how their teaching practices engage, include, and eliminate barriers to learning for UNC Charlotte students, and how their educational approach helps increase the engagement and success of all students regardless of their entry pathway into the university.
