EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the procedures for evaluating non-licensed staff
REPORTS TO: Principal or designee, Operations Manager – Security, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services, and Administration

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
1. One to three years job-related experience preferred, which may be gained by one to three years of experience in law enforcement, security or similar activities, or two years education in law enforcement or criminal justice
Certificates/Licenses:
1. Must hold or be eligible to hold Colorado POST certification or must have successfully completed a state certified, federal or military police academy
2. Must satisfactorily complete initial certification and annual re-certification training in law skills, enforcement and security skills, including but not limited to legal updates, crisis intervention physical control and arrest techniques and firearms qualification
3. Must hold a valid Colorado driver’s license
4. Certified/trained for Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
5. Certified/trained in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
6. National Incident Management System (NIMS)
7. Valid Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP)
Other Necessary Special Requirements:
1. A pre-employment psychological assessment
2. Must have no history of criminal involvement
3. A police background and criminal history check
4. Must pass random drug screening
5. Must have the ability to work cooperatively with all stakeholders

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides armed patrol of District-owned property to enforce laws and District regulations and to detect and/or interdict vandalism, theft, burglary, and other criminal activity
2. Greets visitors, makes them feel welcomed by inquiring about the nature of their visit or business, offers assistance by directing visitors to appropriate offices and locations, and directs and/or escorts unauthorized persons off campus
3. Ensures students, staff, and visitors adhere to school board policies and regulations while on campus or at District-sponsored events and monitors hallways, checks student passes, and keeps students out of unauthorized areas
4. Issues verbal warnings, reports misconduct, and requests assistance from appropriate personnel as required
5. Completes necessary referrals/reports to document discipline-code violations
6. Locates and escorts students as requested by building administration
7. Conducts routine, daily inspections of hallways, exterior doorways, gates, etc. to ensure a safe, secure campus
8. Conducts continual and routine patrol of parking lots to ensure that vehicles are parked in authorized areas, bus-loading and unloading zones are not blocked, and traffic flow is expedient and efficient for safe pedestrian crossing
9. Works with building administration to develop and enforce security policies and procedures
10. Assists with the coordination of action to take regarding threats of violence or other emergency situations
11. Watches for disturbances, student conflicts, unauthorized visitors, danger or potential danger, criminal/suspicious activity, etc. and intervenes and diffuses threatening or confrontational situations to ensure the safety of self and others and calls for administrative assistance, as necessary
12. Assists students in resolving minor disagreements and promotes appropriate conflict resolution
13. Promotes an orderly learning environment
14. Renders appropriate first aid to injured persons and follows established protocol for reporting injuries
15. Observes and gathers information about student involvement in gang-related activities, illegal substance use, etc. and reports incidents to building administration
16. Supervises students upon arrival to and departure from school as assigned
17. Provides supervision of students and spectators at extracurricular activities, as assigned
18. Assists in the evacuation of the building during fire drills, emergency/crisis drills, and in actual emergency/crisis situations
19. Works with administration, high school campus supervisors, and District safety and security officers to ensure safe operation of facilities and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors
20. Completes accident and incident vandalism reports
21. Monitors alarm systems, camera systems, and other security devices for the building
22. Patrols and maintains the grounds of all facilities to ensure safe operation of facilities and secure environment for students, staff and visitors
23. Serves as a liaison with law enforcement agencies, area school Districts, parents and the public as directed by building administration
24. Responds to burglar, fire or panic-alarm activations to check the security of premises and to provide assistance to responding police officers and/or District personnel
25. Assists responding police officers in the conduct of their investigations by contacting necessary District personnel, opening doors, turning off/on alarm systems, etc.
26. Confers with and assists building administration, school safety and security and police on investigation or criminal incidents or discipline- policy violations
27. Makes appropriate notification via telephone, radio or written report of incidents requiring documentation
28. Investigates and documents criminal events on District-owned property
29. Provides security and assistance for public meetings or the board of education and other District committees and activities
30. Models an effective understanding and respect for diversity and inclusion
31. Incorporates legal rights and due process for children with special needs
32. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
33. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
34. Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; taste and smell; and talk and hear. The employee may also need to stoop, squat, reach, climb, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee may possibly need to extensively walk, run, come in contact with violent youth and/or adults, physically intervene in assaults and/or fights, physically restraint students and/or adults.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to exert average or above average physical effort.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The employee could possibly be exposed to explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud. The employee may be required assigned shift work, including late evenings and early mornings.
