Position Summary
The Director of Health Sciences serves as the executive leader responsible for developing and sustaining the healthcare identity of Colorado Springs Healthcare High School. This is a visionary, student-centered role that ensures healthcare is embedded throughout every aspect of the school experience, from curriculum and culture to clinical partnerships and workforce development.
The DHS inspires students, coaches teachers, cultivates community relationships, and ensures every Colorado Springs Healthcare High School graduate leaves prepared for college, professional certification, and a career in healthcare. This person is also the public face of Health Sciences for Colorado Springs Healthcare High School and represents the school with hospital systems, higher education institutions, government agencies, and community organizations.
What You Will Do
Healthcare Vision and Culture
You will lead the strategic vision for all Health Sciences programming and build a healthcare-first culture that runs through every corner of the school. From White Coat Ceremonies and Healthcare Signing Days to HOSA events and clinical celebrations, you will develop traditions that give students a genuine sense of professional identity. Healthcare language, expectations, and values will be visible and felt throughout the campus.
Curriculum Leadership
Working alongside academic leadership and classroom teachers, you will help integrate healthcare concepts into core academic subjects in meaningful ways. Examples include exploring medical ethics in English class, applying dosage calculations and healthcare statistics in math, covering anatomy and epidemiology in science, and addressing public health policy in social studies. You will provide ongoing coaching and professional development so that teachers can confidently connect academic content to real healthcare applications.
Clinical and Healthcare Partnerships
You will build and sustain relationships with the hospitals, health systems, clinics, EMS agencies, fire departments, behavioral health organizations, universities, and community groups that make this school's promise real. These partnerships will create clinical placements, internships, job shadowing opportunities, guest speakers, scholarship access, equipment support, advisory board engagement, and workforce pipeline programs for Colorado Springs Healthcare High School students.
Career Pathways and Certification Programs
You will oversee all healthcare pathways offered at Colorado Springs Healthcare High School, including Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, Dental Assisting, Surgical Technology, Medical Billing and Coding, and Licensed Practical Nursing, with more programs on the horizon. You will ensure every pathway aligns with industry certifications, postsecondary programs, employer needs, and Colorado CTE standards.
Workforce Development
You will continuously monitor regional healthcare workforce shortages, emerging careers, certification trends, salary data, and employer needs. That intelligence will drive program decisions and keep Colorado Springs Healthcare High School positioned as a relevant, forward-looking school that responds to what Colorado's healthcare sector actually needs.
Student Experience and Events
You will design and lead transformational experiences that bring healthcare to life for students. These include Healthcare Leadership Summits, hospital tours, medical simulation days, mock interviews, career fairs, community health initiatives, HOSA leadership events, and healthcare summer programs. The goal is for students to feel like developing professionals, not just high school students.
Leadership and Professional Development
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will collaborate on school-wide strategy, instructional excellence, and culture building. You will mentor teachers, lead healthcare-focused professional development, and contribute to school improvement initiatives that elevate the entire Colorado Springs Healthcare High School community.
Community Relations and External Representation
You will serve as Colorado Springs Healthcare High School healthcare ambassador throughout Colorado Springs and beyond. That means presenting to healthcare organizations, school districts, business leaders, chambers of commerce, foundations, conferences, and media outlets on behalf of the school and its mission.
Data and Program Evaluation
You will track and analyze student certification rates, clinical hours, internship participation, college credit attainment, graduate outcomes, postsecondary enrollment, employment placement, and partner satisfaction.
