Athletic Trainer – Wellness, Performance & Post-Rehabilitation Training

Oregon Physical Therapy is seeking a motivated, client-centered Athletic Trainer to work with paid wellness, performance, athletic, and post-rehabilitation clients. This is a commission-based position with the flexibility to set your own schedule and build your own client base within an established physical therapy and athletic club environment.
This role is ideal for an athletic trainer who enjoys blending strength training, mobility work, manual therapy, therapeutic techniques, and performance training to create a truly individualized client experience.
About the Role
The Athletic Trainer will work with clients who have completed physical therapy and are ready to transition into continued strength, mobility, performance, and wellness training. This role also serves athletes and active individuals looking to improve movement quality, athletic performance, injury resilience, flexibility, strength, mobility, and overall function.
Each session will be tailored to the client’s individual goals, needs, and physical abilities. Clients may include former physical therapy patients, recreational athletes, competitive athletes, active adults, and individuals seeking a higher level of guided movement and performance training.
The Athletic Trainer will have access to a unique combination of resources, including therapeutic tools and modalities within the physical therapy practice, treatment tables, and the full range of strength, cardio, and functional training equipment available at Timberhill Athletic Club. The role may also include use of the warm water therapy pool for aquatic therapy and water-based training when appropriate.
Responsibilities
The Athletic Trainer will:
- Provide individualized training sessions for paid clients of Oregon Physical Therapy
- Work with physical therapy patients after completion of their treatment to help them transition into continued strength, mobility, wellness, and performance training
- Serve athletes and active individuals seeking to improve strength, mobility, movement quality, and athletic performance
- Design and progress customized sessions based on each client’s goals, abilities, limitations, and functional needs
- Blend therapeutic techniques with strength, mobility, cardio, and functional training to deliver a unique and personalized training experience
- Utilize available therapeutic tools, modalities, treatment tables, and training equipment as appropriate
- Incorporate aquatic therapy or warm water pool-based training when beneficial for the client
- Maintain professional communication with the Oregon Physical Therapy team when working with former physical therapy patients
- Document sessions as needed and track client progress
- Build strong client relationships through excellent service, education, and individualized care
- Maintain a safe, professional, and encouraging training environment

- Active release-style techniques
- Ultrasound

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is passionate about helping people move better, feel stronger, and perform at a higher level. They should be comfortable working with a wide variety of clients, from athletes to individuals transitioning out of physical therapy care.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, professional, and interested in growing a client base within a supportive physical therapy and athletic club setting.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Certified Athletic Trainer credential, or equivalent applicable background and licensure/certification
- Experience working with athletes, active adults, post-rehabilitation clients, or performance-focused populations
- Strong understanding of strength training, mobility, injury prevention, movement mechanics, and athletic performance
- Experience with manual therapy, soft tissue techniques, taping, stretching, and therapeutic modalities
- Experience or interest in aquatic therapy is a plus
- Ability to individualize sessions based on client goals, limitations, and progress
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional, dependable, and motivated to grow a client caseload
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with the physical therapy team when appropriate
Compensation & Schedule
This is a commission-based position. The Athletic Trainer will have the ability to set their own schedule based on client availability, clinic needs, and personal preference.
