About the Position

As an Ophthalmic Technician at MHEI, you play a vital role in delivering an exceptional patient experience and supporting life-changing care. This is a hands-on, patient-facing role that offers the opportunity to build meaningful connections while developing strong clinical and professional skills. Ophthalmic Technician → Ophthalmic Scribe → Pod Lead → Lead Ophthalmic Technician → Clinical Manager → Practice Manager → Practice Administrator

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will support patient care and clinic flow while building foundational clinical skills and contributing to a high-performing team environment.

Create a welcoming, patient-centered environment where individuals feel comfortable and cared for
Perform comprehensive patient workups, including visual acuity, refractions, intraocular pressure, pupil and motility testing, and administration of medications per protocol
Obtain high-quality diagnostic imaging and testing in accordance with MHEI standards
Communicate effectively with patients to gather medical history and understand their concerns
Educate patients on procedures, treatments, and next steps when appropriate
Support surgical and procedural workflows, including patient preparation and coordination of documentation
Complete patient follow-up tasks such as prescriptions and communication
Cross-train in scribing and procedure assisting based on business needs and training progression
Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, safety, and organizational protocols

Role Breakdown:
~95% clinical care |~5% administrative support

Qualifications

Previous ophthalmic technician experience required
Ophthalmology experience required
Bilingual strongly preferred

Licensure/Certification (preferred, not required):

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT)
Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC)

Work Location

The primary location can be at our Sheridan or Lakewood location. Our team occasionally travels to satellite clinics on a rotation.

Work Hours

This is a full-time position, Monday–Friday.
Candidates must be available to work 5 days per week, 38-40 hours per week.

Compensation

$22/hr – $32/hr+ DOE (based on ophthalmology and technician experience)

The lower end reflects candidates with limited eye care experience
The higher end reflects COA/COT candidates with significant experience
COMT candidates or those with advanced clinical experience may be considered above the listed range
