Coordinate with other engineering / architectural disciplines on projects which he is assigned to ensure disciplines are aligned. Coordinate with client or client representative to ensure expectations for structural design are met. Produce mathematical calculations for the structures required by his assigned projects, utilizing various material of construction (i.e., concrete, steel, masonry, wood, etc). Produce engineering drawings for the structures he has designed using REVIT. Delegate engineering calculations and drawings to other engineers and designers and provide quality control oversight for their production. Design structures, such as buildings; create structural models by using computer aided design software (REVIT). Create calculations including loads and pressures caused by environmental and equipment influence. Selection of appropriate construction materials. Provide construction support. Prepare and monitor project budgets and schedule. Lead project team consisting of other engineers and drafters.
The Structural Engineer Career Level position at Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., does not have “direct reports,” meaning, the employee is not designated as a manager of specific employees in the employer’s internal systems. On specific projects, he is a “lead,” which means he mentors and guides junior engineers and drafters (while continuing to perform hands-on engineering tasks). Thus, we contend that he is not a “manager” or “supervisor.”
In any case, the number of employees, and their specific backgrounds, varies according to project, but generally it will be composed of: Junior Structural Engineers – work on a variety of new construction and retrofit projects comprising different materials like steel, concrete, etc. They assist in performing various engineering tasks such as developing analysis models, preparing calculations and subsequently increasing their depth and breadth of familiarity with the design methodology and building codes. Designers (Drafters) - work closely with clients and construction trade partners as they develop design concepts, create models from scratch, and coordinate designs to consider existing conditions and other disciplines. The Designer will convey structural requirements to the construction team through traditional 2D paper deliverables and/or BIM 3D Revit models.
Hybrid schedule is allowed.
