Installation Technician – Commercial Electronic Security
Reports to: Project Manager
FLSA Status: Full-Time, Hourly / Non-Exempt
Typical Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; however, hours may vary based on project needs, service demands, and on-call requirements.
Position Summary
Down East Protection Systems (DEPS) is seeking a Commercial Electronic Security Installation Technician to install, program, test, and service a variety of electronic security systems for commercial clients. This role supports the successful delivery of projects involving access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and fire alarm systems.
The Installation Technician works closely with Project Managers, Lead Technicians, and other team members to ensure installations are completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications and industry standards. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
System Installation and Setup
- Install commercial electronic security systems including intrusion alarms, access control systems, video surveillance (CCTV), and fire alarm systems.
- Install and terminate low-voltage wiring, devices, control panels, readers, cameras, sensors, and associated hardware.
- Mount, wire, label, and test equipment in accordance with system designs, project plans, and manufacturer specifications.
- Program and configure system components as required.
Project Execution
- Assist with day-to-day project tasks under the direction of the Lead Technician or Project Manager.
- Review installation plans, blueprints, and scope of work to ensure systems are installed accurately.
- Maintain organized job sites and ensure tools, materials, and equipment are used safely and efficiently.
- Complete assigned installations within project timelines while maintaining quality standards.
Testing and Commissioning
- Perform system testing, device verification, and troubleshooting to ensure proper operation.
- Verify communication with monitoring stations when applicable.
- Assist in system commissioning and final walkthroughs with project leads.
Customer Interaction
- Maintain a professional appearance and communicate clearly with customers and site contacts.
- Provide basic system orientation or support when requested by project leadership.
- Represent DEPS in a professional manner while onsite.
Team Collaboration and Training
- Work alongside experienced technicians to develop technical knowledge and installation skills.
- Participate in training to stay current with industry standards and emerging security technologies.
- Support team members to ensure project success.
Service Support
- Assist with troubleshooting or service work related to installed systems as needed.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to emergency service calls outside of regular business hours when approved.
Required Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in electronic security systems.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and installation equipment safely.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical instructions and installation plans.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Ability to meet requirements for registration with the North Carolina Alarm Licensing Board.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience installing commercial security systems.
- Experience with access control, video surveillance, or fire alarm systems.
- Edwards EST fire alarm system experience or certification preferred.
- Knowledge of low-voltage wiring practices and structured cabling.
- Familiarity with commercial construction environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor job sites.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and perform work involving walking, crawling, bending, kneeling, and overhead work.
- Ability to use hands and fingers for fine motor tasks related to wiring and device installation.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and travel to job sites.
