Full Job Description

UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a casual Transport Monitor Technician. In this critical role, you'll play an essential part in safely transporting patients while working closely with advanced medical equipment and supporting emergency response teams. Purpose: To assist with patient care and transport of patients

Responsibilities:

Transports patients via wheelchair, stretcher, bed, or assists ambulatory patients.
Handles IVs, oxygen tanks, heart/transport monitors, ventilators, and other equipment during transport.
Uses lift equipment (lift machines, smooth movers, gait belts) with nursing staff for safe patient transfers.
Assists with hospital-wide training on assistive and dependent mechanical lifts.
Supports heavy lifting in patient care areas.
Responds to Code Blue, Rapid Response, Stroke Alerts, and Stat calls; performs chest compressions and assists with urgent transports.
Communicates effectively during emergencies and follows established protocols.
Transports deceased patients to the morgue and completes required documentation with Security.
Manages patient charts and “Ticket to Ride” forms; accompanies patients during transfers between units/departments.
Considers age-specific needs when obtaining and interpreting patient information.
Maintains patient dignity with proper draping (robes, slippers, blankets) during transport.
Identifies fall risks and communicates risks during patient handoff.
Cleans, distributes, and stores traction equipment and overhead frames.
Maintains a clean, safe, and aseptic environment; inspects and maintains equipment regularly.
Distributes portable oxygen tanks for patient discharges under Case Management direction.
Participates in QA/QI activities and tracks patient transport data.
Demonstrates service excellence through accurate, timely, and patient-centered care.
Adheres to attendance and tardiness policies; maintains acceptable performance record.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Good communication skills.
Displays excellent customer service skills. Basic computer knowledge.
This position typically reports to Transport Supervisor. May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients. Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
