Full Job Description

A legal assistant works closely with attorneys and coworkers in our civil law practice. This position primarily requests and organizes medical records and bills. Job duties include preparing letters and documents for attorney review, communicating with clients and others by phone and email, preparing medical bill and treatment summaries, and preparing mailings. The successful applicant will be able to work independently through a daily list of tasks, be focused, and be able to communicate with a broad array of people from various backgrounds and education levels.

Our practice uses primarily electronic documents, so computer skills are essential. The applicant must be familiar with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Suite Apps. There are also specific case management programs that we use and online filing with the courts, so a general level of comfort with computers is required.

The practice of law is fast paced and multi-faceted. It often requires re-prioritizing work and addressing unforeseen tasks on an as-needed basis. To succeed, one must have the ability to change directions to complete one task, then be able to resume working on longer-term projects when time permits.

Prior legal experience is beneficial, but not required. We are willing to train someone with the basic skills outlined above and a desire to work and learn. Over time, and with demonstrated ability, the position may develop into that of a paralegal.

Essential Skills:

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Suite Apps (Gmail, Calendar)
Detail oriented
Persistent – Some duties will require repeatedly following up with outside vendors or companies who may be unresponsive

Schedule:

This is a part-time position. We expect hours to be approximately 15-20 hours per week. The firm is open from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the applicant will need to work during that window, although the time worked are flexible. This is an IN-PERSON position. IT IS NOT REMOTE.

Compensation:

$17.00/hour - $20.00/hour depending on experience.
