The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is seeking applications for a full-time Deputy Sheriff Patrol I - II position. Applicants must have an Associate’s/Technical degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and experience. State of MN (POST) License or (POST) license eligible by date of hire, and a valid driver’s license is required. The primary duties for this position include taking calls for service, patrolling all roads within Polk County, serving civil papers, transporting prisoners, court security, enforcing the law, and protection of life and property within Polk County.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office offers a wide variety of opportunities, which include Patrol, Investigations, Drug Task Force, (SWAT, Negotiations, bomb squad in combination with Grand Forks Regional Emergency Response team), Boat and Water/Snowmobile/ATV safety/TZD grant shifts, and Drone Pilot. Polk County Sheriff’s Office now offers a sign-on incentive. Any new employee hired on or before December 31st, 2027, will qualify for a $2,000.00 sign-on incentive, plus an additional $500.00 for successfully completing the probationary period (12 months or 2080 hours worked, whichever is greater). Up to an additional $2,500.00 in incentives will be paid under this program for continued service, consisting of $500 payments every six months (July and December).

Essential Functions

Investigates accidents and incidents by gathering, securing, and documenting evidence, interviewing witnesses and recording pertinent information.

Responds to complaints, accidents, disturbances and/or requests for service; assesses situation and determines most appropriate response in order to prevent potentially dangerous or violent situations from occurring or continuing.

Patrols County roadways to enforce all laws and regulations; to provide security; and to issue citations for traffic violations and submits complaints to the proper prosecuting authority for review and request for charges.

Assists with service of civil process by serving civil documents, warrants, summons, protection/harassment orders, complaints, executions, and tax redemptions.

Assists in court duties by performing transport duties and court security.

Assists with guarding and transporting prisoners to medical facilities, psychiatric facilities, prisons, and other jails within the state as well as from out of state at the conclusion of the extradition process.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Other duties as assigned by the Sheriff, Chief Deputy, or Sergeant.

Education and Experience
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in criminal justice or law enforcement, or related field and minimal experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements

Special Requirements
State of Minnesota Police Officer's Standard Training Test License.
