What Austin Civil Group is looking for
Austin Civil Group, Inc. is seeking a full-time Civil Engineer / Civil CAD Designer that is proficient in Civil Site Plan Design, AutoCAD and Civil3D. The successful candidate(s) enjoy working in the land development projects from initial planning stages all through construction. We are looking for someone who enjoys the western Colorado lifestyle and opportunities Grand Junction and the surrounding areas have to offer. As a valued and respected member of the design team, the Civil CAD Designer / Engineer will help shape our firm’s policies regarding appropriate injection of new technologies into various project workflows.
What You Will Do Here
As a Civil Engineer / Civil CAD Designer, you will assist project managers and engineers to bring the client’s concepts to life through detailed designs, drawings, creating required documents for the municipal acceptance process as well as through construction. In general, this position is responsible for preparing drawings and improvement plans & reports used in civil engineering projects based on the design provided by the client and senior civil engineer, with minimal assistance. Plans will be produced in planographic and profile views. Plans include grading and drainage plans, street, sewer, storm drain and water plans, pipelines, drainage reports, and erosion control plans.
Essential Job Functions
- Produce improvement plans, drainage reports, exhibits and drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, while working under the direction of a Licensed Civil Engineer.
- Produce maps, diagrams, and profiles, using cross-sections and surveys to represent elevations, topographical contours, and structures.
- Create maps, diagrams and profiles using Civil3D design surfaces.
- Draft plan and profile views of improvement plans, such as street, storm drain, sewer, water and other underground improvements, using smart labels and other methods.
- Draft plan views of detailed and rough grading plans for various clientele such as residential, commercial and industrial developers.
- Create and manipulate construction details and cross sections.
- Ability to address red-lined comments from public agencies or internal reviewers.
- Review rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data received from civil engineers to ensure that they conform to design concepts.
- Generate earthwork models and utilize Civil3D tools to perform quantity calculations and prepare “heat maps” depicting areas of deep cut and/or fill.
- Generate required documents for the municipal acceptance process including drainage reports, general project narratives and development applications, etc.
- Other duties as applicable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of Civil3D design components and drafting techniques in the United States.
- Ability to prepare conceptual designs utilizing a combination or Google Earth, AutoCAD and/or Civil3D as appropriate.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and exhibits in the United States.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
Education, Experience, and Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the United States and proficiency using Auto CAD Civil3D
- Minimum of 5 years of Civil Site Plan Design work experience in the United States
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the United States and preferably Mesa County and Colorado
- Competent in Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Grading, Drainage and Utility design experience in the United States and preferably Mesa County and Colorado
- Diversified experience within various stages/design elements of a project is a plus in the United States and preferably Mesa County and Colorado
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
- Must be willing to relocate to the Grand Junction, Colorado area
- Must be willing to work in-office; this is not a remote position
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
