Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Automation Estimator is responsible for evaluating customer requirements and developing accurate cost estimates for automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, and related manufacturing solutions. This role works closely with customers, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to assess project feasibility, define scope, and prepare competitive quotations that align with company capabilities and profitability goals.

Key Responsibilities

Review customer RFQs, specifications, drawings, and project requirements.
Develop cost estimates for automation systems, tooling, fixtures, and related equipment.
Evaluate manufacturing methods, materials, labor requirements, and purchased components.
Request and review supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to determine project feasibility and risks.
Prepare detailed quotations, pricing breakdowns, and proposal documentation.
Maintain estimating records, cost databases, and historical project information.
Support project handoff activities following order receipt.
Participate in customer discussions regarding technical and commercial requirements.
Track work time and project information within Global Shop Solutions (GSS).
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating process.
Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
Knowledge of automation equipment, tooling, fabrication, machining, and assembly processes.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
ERP system familiarity.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, Business, or related field preferred.
3+ years of estimating, manufacturing engineering, project engineering, tooling, automation, or related experience preferred.
Experience reviewing technical drawings and project specifications preferred.

Additional Information

Occasional overtime may be required based on quoting volume and customer deadlines.
This position is primarily on-site within the engineering and automation departments.
Occasional travel may be required for customer visits, supplier meetings, project reviews, or industry events.

Pay: $32.00 - $38.00 per hour
