Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Property Management Accountant to join our team. In this vital role, you will oversee the financial operations related to property management, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective financial analysis. Your expertise will support the organization’s property portfolio by managing accounting functions, preparing financial statements, and maintaining rigorous internal controls. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a growing organization dedicated to excellence in property management and financial stewardship.

Responsibilities

Manage and reconcile general ledger accounts, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Record general expenses.
Tenant Accounting: Record and track tenant rents in Appfolio, issue owner statements/disbursements, track owner reserves, process security deposits, and perform general reconciliation to include reconciling tenant accounts
Prepare detailed financial statements, reports, and analyses to support decision-making processes related to property portfolios.
Oversee budgeting processes, forecast cash flows, and monitor financial performance against budgets for multiple properties.
Ensure regulatory compliance by preparing and submitting required reports in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Maintain detailed records of lease agreements, tenant billing, and other property-related transactions using Appfolio
Conduct internal audits and support external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial data.
Compliance: Ensure adherence to real estate laws, tax regulations, and internal policies, including remittance of legislated taxes
Mentor junior staff members in accounting procedures, fostering a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement.
Collaborate with property managers and other stakeholders to interpret financial reports and provide insights into financial health and operational efficiency.

Experience

Proven experience within real estate or property management.
Strong knowledge of GAAP principles combined with practical experience in technical accounting practices such as accrual accounting.
Familiarity with accounting software including QuickBooks and Appfolio is essential.
Demonstrated ability to perform detailed account reconciliation, balance sheet analysis, cash flow analysis, and financial statement preparation.
Prior involvement in auditing processes or supporting external auditors will be considered a plus.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and prepare comprehensive financial reports.
Strong organizational skills complemented by proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and report generation.
Experience mentoring or training junior team members in accounting procedures is desirable. Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
