Project Superintendent / Estimator – Elevation Home Builders
Elevation Home Builders is a custom home builder, remodeler, and design firm in Iowa City, founded in 2017. We build and remodel homes that look as good in person as they do in photos — and we're hiring an experienced Project Superintendent / Estimator to run our job sites and help bring new projects in the door.
This is a dual role with real ownership. On the build side, you'll run day-to-day job site coordination — scheduling subcontractors, quality control, inspections, safety, and keeping every project on schedule and on budget. On the estimating side, you'll meet with prospective remodel clients, create 2D designs alongside our in-house design team, and build the budgets that turn leads into signed projects. You'll report directly to leadership.
What You'll Do
Job Site Supervision
- Run superintendent duties across multiple job sites at once (remodel and new construction)
- Perform daily site visits to confirm trades and vendors are completing work correctly before they leave — heading off delays and added cost
- Meet trades and vendors on site the day a job starts to set clear expectations
- Keep every job site clean, orderly, and secure; lock up tools and equipment at the end of each day
- Follow CSR/DNR water-runoff guidelines and complete SWPPP weekly reports when required
- Complete daily logs with photos in Buildertrend
- Make sure the job site information box (layouts, designs, appliance specs, supporting docs) is on site before trades start
Scheduling & Budget
- Build, schedule, and update project timelines weekly (or more often) in Buildertrend
- Schedule subcontractors and vendors to keep construction flowing and finishing on time
- Notify designers and leadership of all changes, issues, and delays so homeowners get timely change orders
- Work with designers and leadership to keep projects on budget; process all change orders through Buildertrend
Quality Control, Inspections & Safety
- Perform quality-control checks on all work performed on site
- Coordinate inspections with building officials and be on site for every inspection (building, sprinkler, fire, health & safety)
- Apply a working knowledge of the International Building Code as adopted by local governing bodies
- Keep every job site safe and compliant with OSHA standards
Permitting & Utilities
- Pull building permits and manage energy audits, NPDES, and SWPPP
- Update documents on city and government sites and upload permits into Buildertrend
- Set up utility service for projects (sometimes more than one per job)
Purchasing & Inventory
- Purchase materials for jobs, the office, and carpenters based on take-off sheets
- Track orders and deliveries to keep projects on schedule; deliver purchased items to job sites
- Log invoices into job cost, draw sheets, and QuickBooks, and keep the accountant informed
Estimating & Client Meetings
- Meet with prospective remodel clients to review their projects and take detailed notes on their wishes
- Procure the blueprints and measurements needed to create design work
- Offer both construction and design feedback to clients
- Coordinate with management on how best to be involved in each project — every client is unique
- Oversee marketing and recommend new ways to attract additional clientele, sharing ideas with leadership at appropriate times
Design & Budgeting
- Create 2D designs in consultation with the in-house interior design team that meet client needs, code, and efficiency
- Build Phase 1 budgetary numbers for clients to review before deciding to move to Phase 2
- In Phase 2, help obtain bids that reflect the actual finishes clients select; meet subs and vendors on site as needed
- Build complete client folders in Buildertrend — profile, job cost, design work, portfolio, bids, and progress photos
Hands-On Support (as needed)
- Recommend and assist in hiring subcontractors
- Step in to keep projects on schedule when a sub is delayed — demolition, minor framing or carpentry, unloading material, cleaning, painting, power washing
- Handle office work as time allows — schedules, bookkeeping, and organizing and printing files for trades
Job duties are subject to change by supervisor.
